Happy Birthday America! Day 1 and we already have 29 potatoes on the road and over 400 miles logged.
As we start our 16th year, we’re hoping to see a lot of milestones met. Today was a hot one for most of the country so we had a lot of HOT potatoes today. Hopefully you were able to beat the heat – I know I rode inside today! So glad Spud Funk is OK (see below).
Here’s what y’all had to say about your rides:
Spudly-Beat the heat by riding the Peloton while watching the Tour on Peacock
Marshmallow Fluff Potato-great to be back :}
Chip-n-Dale-The Bogachiel Rainforest Climb this morning. Happy 250th!
Pommes Soufflées-Indoor ride with East Coast heat wave
Harley Taterson-It will be 105 degrees today on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I started my tour at 8am this morning and it was beautiful on the back, flat roads surrounding Trappe, MD
CycoTater-I am happy to be back on the bike after a 6 month hiatus secondary to thumb surgery!! Even though I rode early this morning, it was still hotter than the bowels of hell out there. Stay hydrated Taters.
Fat Tire Tater-Was chased by a small dog. I had to stop and wait for the owner to chase it away . That has seldom happened in 55 years of riding
Fo Fanna Potato-Yay! First day of LTDCP! Off the couch with Sewin Spuds in Chincoteague! Early morning ride meant there were more mosquitoes than humans out there! I swear I took off my helmet after the ride and two of the little buggers flew out! Cheers to a very itchy (but really fun) July 4th adventure
Frying Nun-Steamy like a hot potato!
Chilli Cheese Fries-Shake down ride in 100 degrees temps
Bud Spud-On Kent Island for a 4th of July Wedding with Microchip we battled the heat and biked the Cross Island Trail so happy to hit the air conditioning afterwards
Castro Tato-My friend made the 7am pedals up
Uetz Chips-Downed trees from the storm last night made it difficult to navigate one of my favorite trails
The Spudster-HOT !!!!!!
Seitz and Sounds-I am frozen French fry kinda guy, not a burnt to a crisp fritter dude.
Tottering Tater-Watching the World Cup while riding first ride
Nip it in the Spud-Beat the heat but just barely.
Spud Funk-Wasn’t sure if I was going to have a bike to ride on today. We traveled down to SC for the 4th. We were rear ended at a stop sign. Of course my bike was on the rack on the back. Actually, the car that hit us got the worst of it as my hitch took the brunt of the hit. Cracked grill and dent in hood. However, my bike suffered a little damage- broken spokes and handle bars shifted. Thanks to Pee Dee Bike Shop, got it back on July 3rd and ready to go. Got a tune-up as well and bike rode great after doing a 4th of July 5km in the morning.

Remember – we grab miles around 4:30 – 5:00 each day. If you don’t see your miles yet, you will soon – it’s a manual process. We’ll start some “Pedaling by the Numbers” soon!
