Le Tour de Couch Potato 2025

Final Report

The Tour is done, the roads gone still,
Our pedals quiet, but hearts still thrill.
From couch to cruiser, miles were earned—
And yes, dear spuds, some seats were burned.

One hundred miles: the sacred quest,
A spuddy badge for all who pressed.
133 brave Official Potatoes rose,
With Lycra dreams and mashed-up toes.

Together now, let’s raise a fry—
We spudded out and reached the sky!
22,344.7 miles we rode,
On trails, in gyms, and the occasional road.

🎖️ Mythical Patata? A legend true,
543.75—a ride few could do.
Duchess Potato and Madam Tuber? Stars!
They’ve finished all 15 Toursbravo, by far!

Home Fries landed with a perfect score—
100 miles—not less, not more.
Precision, style, and just the right pace,
A fry-shaped ribbon in first-place grace.

But not all tubers made the climb…
Some spuds just ran out of time.
To 70 DUD SPUDS, we gently frown—
Your couches kept you sticking down.
Next year awaits, so don’t lose hope—
We know you’ll train (and maybe cope 😉).

So hats off now to every ride,
To pedal power and spuddy pride.
To friends, to fries, to miles galore—
Le Tour will roll again once more.

Until then, spuds, recover well,
From calf cramps, gear shifts, tales to tell.
You earned your carbs—so dip that tot,
And never forget: YOU SPUDDED A LOT.

🥔🚴‍♀️💛
See you in 2026 — same couch, more cardio.

Final Pedal Day

PSA: Pedaling ends at midnight ET tonight. All miles must be entered by noon ET on 7/29 so we can compile the final report. Please verify your miles as well!
Finishing today!

SEVEN more potatoes crossed the finish line today – just in the nick of time: Tuberville, Spudnik, Rick Taterchip, Potato HopSkins, Bubba Spud, Salt Life Yam, Lenko Latkes.

Potatoes got off the couch in a big way to close out the 15th annual Tour de Couch Potato 2025 – let’s hear directly from them:

Seitz and Sounds Spud – Tri-county ride: Carroll, Baltimore and Howard Counties- basically the Pyrenees.

CycoTater – Steamy but great final ride of the 2025 Tour with the hubs:)

Salt Life Yam – Done and ready to own my magnet! Thanks very much to Madame Tuber and her stalwart team! Best again and so well done and organized! I appreciate getting off the couch on the hottest days of the year….

Potato Chip Rock – Made it past 300 miles. Thank you Madame Tuber for hosting such as fun challenge

Chip-n-Dale – Mirror Lake HIIT Ride in Thailand.

Lenko Latkes – By the skin of my teeth, now off to drop my favorite daughter at camp.

Unknown Potato – I appreciated the opportunity to this another year – #11!

Fat Tire Tater – It was hot!!

Spudnik – Just in the nick of time, but got it in!!

Marshmallow Fluff Potato – great riding with everyone:} viva le tour:]

Here’s where we are from a numbers perspective, as of now: We’ve pedaled 21,767.07 miles with just over 8,200 to hit 30,000 (not going to make it!). There are 132 of us that crossed the finish line, earning magnets. 28 other potatoes got off the couch – we’ll see which of them finish today. 43 other potatoes signed up but didn’t pedal – DUD SPUDS!

Crazy finish to Tour de France in Paris:

Tadej Pogacar closed out a supreme 21-day performance to win the Tour de France in Paris on Sunday, July 27, crushing his rivals in the 3,400 km slog to rack up a fourth title. Wout van Aert won the final-day cliffhanger on the cobbled roads of Montmartre, but Pogacar was spared any late challenge when rain forced times to be neutralized to avoid potential accidents. Pogacar gamely tried for the stage win anyway before Belgian Van Aert pulled away from the Slovenian on the last climb. The winner was clearly enjoying himself as he played to the delighted crowds, racing to the head of the peloton near the Moulin Rouge cabaret at the foot of the climb.

Happy Pedaling,

You Got This Taters! One more day for 2025…

One cycling day remains – to repeat yesterday’s reminder: you can continue to enter mileage a couple days after Le Tour ends. Last pedal day: tomorrow, 7/27. Last day to enter miles: 7/29.
Lots of accomplishments!

Crossing the 100 mile mark today were Home Fries, Mohstato, Potato Lane, Hashbrown Holly, Darth Tater, Mohs Potatoes, Say Y’re A Tater, Wolfpack Potato, Fry Me to the Moon, Winning Spud, Countess Tater, Artful Tuber, I Do Potato and Seitz & Sound Spud.

What’s the news coming from the potato patch?

Chip-n-Dale did Royal Park Rajapruek Endurance Ride today, and Salt Life Yam was SO HOT!  “Every year I say I’m going to jump on this early…and every year I come down to the wire. But I crossed over the 100-mile mark this morning! Thanks for getting me out pedaling again,” proclaimed Wolf Pack Potato, and Mohstato summed it up for all “Thanks for getting me off my couch!”

Wondering about Tour de France? Is Pogačar untouchable now? Here’s our brief update:

Tadej Pogačar closes in on a fourth Tour de France title after safely finishing Saturday’s stage and maintaining his big lead over arch-rival Jonas Vingegaard. Australian rider Kaden Groves won stage 20 with a late solo breakaway, while Pogačar rolled over the line about seven minutes later in the same time as Vingegaard.

Working for the Weekend!

I just love seeing all these Couch Potato jerseys, pictured – nice job representing Le Tour. Can you believe it: only this weekend remains to earn that magnet. As a reminder, we’ll keep the mile page open for a couple days beyond the official final cycle day: last pedal day is July 27 (ends a midnight), final day to enter the miles is July 29 (Yes, they have to be ridden during Le Tour, no extra credit LOL).

THREE potatoes crossed the finish line today. Keep those pedals moving! Mann, I Feel Like a Potato, Potato Cake, Spidey Spud
Now for our Couch Potato Commentary:

Salt Life Yam – The end is near… unfortunately for the cows today it was not a good day for them.

Russet Rhodes – Wrapping up my first LTdCP on an even number! (Congrats on your first finish – hoping its not the last and we’ll see you next year.)

Chip-n-Dale – West Coast Koh Yao Noi HIIT Ride and the Old City Tempo Ride this morning.

Yam Kronen – A nice cool ride indoors!

Last of the Potatoes – Final ride up and down Gulf Blvd in Florida for a while. Fought the wind south, flew like the wind north.

Nip it in the Spud – First time going over 200 miles in the Tour. 2 Magnets? (Congrats!!)

Closing in on the finish line with 20 or less miles to go, are these potatoes. Cheer them on as we watch them finish: I Do Potato, Artful Tuber, Home Fries, Seitz and Sounds Spud, Winning Spud, Wolfpack Potato, Bubba Spud, Hashbrown Holly, Mohs Potatoes, Potato Lane, Salt Life Yam, Mohstato, Kenzy Krinklecut, Spudnik, Countess Tater, Darth Tater, Potato HopSkins, Rick Taterchip.

Here are the potatoes over half way but less than 80 miles. They have some pedaling in front of them but they can do it! Say Y’re a Tater, Tuberville, How to Train Your Tater, Fry Me to the Moon, Bumble Spud, Maraschino Potato, Tater Toes, 2Ber Fit, Hob Knob Potato, Lenko Latkes, Tubermore, LOL Tot

Off the couch but less than half way, there are spuds here who have finished several Tours in the past so let’s not give up on them. If you know one, take them out for a ride: Bike Babe Potato, Ini-tater, Spud Lover, Uetz Chips, Spud Lass, Kendall au Gratin, Hot Potato, Eveready Yam, White Potato, Pedaler McPotato, Kaylea au Gratin, Rosenspud, Edgar Ellen Poe-Tato, Sammy Yammy, Cheeze Fries, Yamsterdan, Spuddles, Cajun Gator Tater

Arensman sealed a stage win today in the Tour de France:

Dutch rider Thymen Arensman picked up a second stage win at the Tour de France on Friday, July 25, winning stage 19 at La Plagne ski resort in the French Alps as defending champion Tadej Pogacar closed in on a fourth title. Arensman crossed the finish line in the rain two seconds ahead of title contender Jonas Vingegaard and his great rival Pogacar.

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber

Is it possible that Le Tour is near the end?!

Rounding the bend into the homestretch – I don’t know about you all, but this spud is excited for the finish line. Vive Le Tour!!

SIXTEEN more finishers today bringing our total to 108: Starch Trek, Baked Potato, DragonFry, Chili Cheese Fries, Potabella, Commissioner Potato, Betty Crocker Tater, Disorderly Tater, A-Peeling Esther, Russet Rhodes, Fat Tire Tater, Tottin’ Terry, Haus of Spuds, Southern Fried Spud, Spuddy Holly and Gater Bait Tater.
Now for our Couch Potato Commentary:

Wolfpack Potato needs “A few more early morning rides and I’ll be over the 100-mile mark!” Chilli Cheese Fries celebrated “Yay, I crossed the finish line. I didn’t mean for my entire ride to be inside but it’s just been too hot to log 100 miles outside!” CycoTater had a “Quick morning ride before heading to Wolf Trap to see JJ Grey, Dumpstafunk and Trombone Shorty!!”

Chip-n-Dale – Ao Nang Beach Tempo Ride and Huay Tung Tao Endurance Ride this morning. Betty Crocker Tater taught her cycling class at the Y and Yam Kronen was “Sweltering Hot! I’m melting….”

The Tour de France was favoring an Aussie today:

Australian Ben O’Connor won Stage 18 of the Tour de France to vault into the top 10 of the overall standings as riders had to overcome 5,450 meters in climbs up three different summits, including the toughest one to the finish line at Courchevel Col de la Loze. But Pogačar’s ability to maintain his sizable lead over chief rival Jonas Vingegaard is leaving little room for drama with just three stages remaining in this year’s Tour de France.

Happy Pedaling, Duchess Potato

Four days left – get to pedaling.

Those potatoes we’ve been watching are crossing the finish line!

NINE more finishers today bringing our total to 93: Last of the Potatoes, Seafaring Spud, MelaTater, Bandit Yam, Kartoffel Kaiser, Rain or Shine Tater, Potato Prez, LowTato, Madam Tuber

Before our potato commentary, a PSA: Remember that in order for your miles to be credited to you, miles must be logged with the same email address you used to register. Please be sure the email address matches. Check the rules, if you mess this up, it’s on you!

Now for our Couch Potato Commentary:

Oh-Kay-Tuber – Early morning ride with Fly Like An Eagle

Chip-n-Dale – East Coast Koh Yao Noi HIIT Ride this morning.

Seafaring Spud – This 16+ mile trip in the scenic Washington & Old Dominion bike trail will earn me the coveted this year. I will be putting some icing on the cake to make sure Wolfpack Potato gets across the finish line. Thanks to Madame Tuber, Duchess Potato and the whole crew for all the logistics to make this fun & get us all off the couch.

Irish Spud – Nice ride to Windmill Point this morning and an even nicer tailwind on the way back!

Rain or Shine Tater – Another spin with the expectant Moms

Potato Prez – Medal #13! Not going to let a cracked rib and separated shoulder stop me!

CycoTater – Awesome morning ride. I got up close and personal with a bald eagle that pulled me down the road for about a 1/4 mile!!

Kartoffel Kaiser – I was thrilled for a somewhat cooler day to finish up my potato miles. Thanks to the royal potatoes for organizing this each year. This is my 10th LTdCP and it’s always a summer highlight! 🌞

Last of the Potatoes – Rode the Pinellas Trail to a wine lunch! Yum!

Madam Tuber – Yes, I made it. I had a passenger this year – nothing like pedaling with a kidney stone. I should have been pedaling with Potato Prez – my kidney stone could have kept his cracked rib and separated shoulder company.

Who is Close??

Creeping up to the finish line with 10 or less miles to go: Chili Cheese Fries, A-Peeling Esther, Potabella, Artful Tuber, Gator Bait Tater, Seitz and Sounds Spud, Mann, I feel like a Potato, Baked Potato, Russet Rhodes, Spuddy Holly, Southern Fried Spud

Our potatoes in the 80 mile range are close as well. They should also earn their magnets in the next couple of days: Commissioner Potato, Disorderly Tater, Betty Crocker Tater, Mohstato, Tottin’ Terry, Winning Spud, Home Fries, Kenzy Krinklecut, Countess Tater, Darth Tater, Rick Taterchip, Fat Tire Tater, Spidey Spud, Hashbrown Holly

That’s 25 potatoes about to cross the finish line. Keep your eyes pealed for them to finish.

The Tour de France was SOGGY:

Jonathan Milan’s stage win today might have clinched the green jersey awarded to the top sprinter at the 2025 Tour de France on July 23. Tadej Pogačar remains in control of the yellow jersey, as he and main rival Jonas Vingegaard avoided trouble on the wet roads that made the 160.4-kilometer course from Bollène to Valence more treacherous than expected.

We added EIGHT potatoes to our list of finishers today: Commen-Tater, Bar Fry, Grape Tater, Star-Spudded, Tubin’ Tuber, Dr. Potato Head, Yamazing, Tuberski

Couch Potato Commentary:

Grape Tater – Done! Bike for sale. Lightly used: just over 100 miles per year.

Wolfpack Potato – Went out early for a quick 10-miler, hoping to see lots of animal friends….the deer seemed unimpressed by my morning motivation. I’m chipping away at my 100 miles…and will be there by Sunday!

Bar Fry – What a way to finish up this year. Riding with fellow Potatoes, Mann I Feel Like A Potato and Fry Me To The Moon! Got to watch deer sprinting across the golf course and huge wild turkey manning the neighborhood. Congratulations to all Potatoes!

Potabella – 13 mph headwind but trying to beat the heat warnings starting tomorrow. Got to that 100 goal. Yaaaaayyy!!!

Mela Tater – I think i can. I think i can🙃

Salt Life Yam – Halfway there! YAHOO!

Seafaring Spud – Knocked off a 30+ mile ride on the Washington & Old Dominion trail, along the original rail line. Rode from McLean VA through Vienna, Teston and Herndon. Lots of history from the Civil War along with deer families, rabbits, red tail hawks.

Chip-n-Dale – Manawainui Gulch Interval Ride today.

How to Train Your Tater – Beautiful Idaho day for a ride

Sweet Tater Carol – So happy to have hit my hundred miles but I just keep on peddling!

Fry like an Eagle – A quick lunch break.

Mann I feel like a Potato – Nice morning ride with fellow spuds — Fry Me to the Moon and I celebrated Bar Fry’s 100th mile, including a wild turkey sighting (the bird, not the whiskey!)

Who is Close??

The potatoes with 10 or less miles to go. We’ll look for them to cross the finish line in the next couple of days: Chili Cheese Fries, A-Peeling Esther, Potabella, Last of the Potatoes, Artful Tuber, MelaTater, Seitz and Sounds Spud, Mann, I feel like a Potato, Baked Potato, Seafaring Spud, Gator Bait Tater, Southern Fried Spud, LowTato

Together, that’s 33 potatoes about to cross the finish line. It’s going to be a BUSY week of pedaling.

In France – the rested riders are back in their seats:

Valentin Paret Peintre triumphed on Mont Ventoux to become the first home rider to win a stage at this year’s Tour de France while Tadej Pogačar consolidated his overall lead.
Paret Peintre finished just ahead of former leader Ben Healy in a sprint for the line at the top of the famed mountain known as the “Beast of Provence.”

The final week is upon us.

Potato Heaven – a few more and SO MANY within striking distance!

SIX more potatoes are soon going to see their magnets: La Nuova Patata, New Potato, Pacific Potato, Tottering Tater, Casey at the Bat Potato, Tom Tater

Here’s what’s happening on the streets:

Bar Fry – Had the pleasure of of riding with mom and dad Cardinals today.. a treat from Heaven, I think so!

Potabella – Trying to beat the rain and heat to make that 100. Hope to finish tomorrow

New Potato – Met the Tour de Couch Potato challenge biking our traditional finish leg on the W&OD, doing an out-and-back from Purcellville and celebrating with lunch at Magnolia’s. The W&OD was more active than expected on a Monday, but it is good to know that treasure is being used. As usual, wore my Tineli New Zealand kit (they make the best equipment), causing some confused looks, but did stay on the correct side of the trail 😊. Rode imagining being on the Otago Central Rail Trail again; a great day!

Tottering Tater – Not the most exciting rides this year, but maybe next year our oldest will be ready to try. Regardless I think that’s lucky number 13.

CycoTater – Pleasant tour of Merry Point but my shoes are still wet from yesterday’s soaker.

As we count down in our final week, here are the potatoes with 10 or less miles to go. We’ll look for them to cross the finish line in the next couple of days: Chili Cheese Fries, Grape Tater, Commen-Tater, Last of the Potatoes, Seitz and Sounds Spud, Bar Fry, Tuberski, Dr. Potato Head, Gator Bait Tater, Tubin’ Tuber, LowTato

Not too far behind them is a cluster of potatoes in the 80 mile range. They should also earn their magnets early this week: Baked Potato, Commissioner Potato, Disorderly Tater, Betty Crocker Tater, Potabella, Potato Prez, Kartoffel Kaiser, Mohstato, Spuddy Holly, Winning Spud, I Do Potato, Yamazing, Southern Fried Spud, Darth Tater, Artful Tuber, A-Peeling Esther, Rick Taterchip, Russet Rhodes, Fat Tire Tater, Rain or Shine Tater, Home Fries, MelaTater

Together, that’s 33 potatoes about to cross the finish line. It’s going to be a BUSY week of pedaling.

Since Tour in France is on a rest day, some TDB “facts for the nerds”:

Jerseys and Prizes: There are several jerseys awarded during the race:

Yellow Jersey for the overall leader

Green Jersey for the best sprinter

And our annual Pleasant Valley Firefighters Ride was the ride of the day. Check out our commentary as it was a BUSY day today.

Spud Luda – Rode Pleasant Valley Fire Fighter Ride to complete my tour!

Disorderly Tater – Yearly ride to support Pleasant Valley Fire department. About 3 miles in, it started to rain. Commander Tater says “I don’t understand, it’s only a 15% chance of rain”. I replied, “Nope, more like 100%.. Gentle rain for the next 5 miles. Then streets wet until the sun came out for the last ten miles. Of course, those last ten miles are the ones with the hills…. Just saying. What a girl will do for ice cream!

Mystery Spud – 11th magnet during the Pleasant Valley Fire Department annual ride. Heavy rain during the early part of the ride for many riders, but I lucked out and missed the rain.

Grape Tater – A flat tire ever the ride early. Looks like it is back to the trainer for me.

Countess Tater – I don’t know what was Hotter: Darth Tater biking in front of me or the temperature 😊

Commissioner Potato – nice ride with 15 minutes of rain.

Sweet Tater Carol – Legs were moving faster today

Fry like an Eagle – A quick ride to the grocery store to get eggs should have put me over the top!

Irish Spud – Hot and steamy morning ride in the Northern Neck of Va.

Mythical Patata – Finished the Erie Canal- Buffalo to Albany!!

Beck-A-Spud – I almost was bitten by a copperhead today on the bike path, but Manntatter saved me.

Grape Tater – My longest ride ever! Now excuse me, I need to go sit on an ice bag.

Potato Prez – Thank goodness for Zwift!

CycoTater – A blessedly less hot and humid day to ride the Tour de Brown Store.

Salt Life Yam – Better late than never! After a couple of weeks of travel I am back! Bike set. Lycra on. Helmet on. Ooooffff here I go.

We’ll start some countdowns on Monday!!

Dutch debutant Thymen Arensman claims his first stage win while Remco Evenepoel was forced to abandon the race. Race leader Tadej Pogacar marginally increased his advantage over Jonas Vingegaard.
