Kickin’ Off Week 2

Almost hit 7000 miles after 8 days of riding and we have 132 potatoes off the couch.

Holy Smokes – 8 New Magnets today!! Nashed Potato, The BENched Potato, You Be Yameen, CycoTater, Irish Spud, Tracie Tots, and Buck-A-Spud all finished up today. The 8th potato finishing was Duchess Potato, earning magnet number 15, and finishing every LTdCP!!

Lots of potato happenings to kick off our second week:

Chip-n-Dale enjoyed a San Martin de los Andes Tempo Ride this morning.

Tattie Tater reports “I achieved my best indoor distance ride today. Peddling to leave the past behind me!”

CherylR had a rough ride – but a ride nonetheless (OH NO – where is the potato name here, Madam Tuber better get with it!)

Betty Crocker Tater rode with Russet Rhodes for 17 miles on and around the Suffolk Seaboard Coastal Trail. It was a beautiful ride!

CycoTater had a steam bath of a ride.

Nashed Potato broke the 100 mile mark today, in honor of the women’s Giro d’Italia finishing up this weekend.

You Be Yameen checks in with “A wonderful with Dave, Jessica and Julie. Toni rode with the speedy Gonzalez pace group. I’m thinking they most likely rode a 18 mph pace.”

Yam Mears rode the neighborhood for more miles!!!

Christmas Potato biked to Ruby’s Bagel Shop

A-Peeling Esther biked through Henlopen State Park on the Junction-Breakwater Trail before Bud Spud and Micro Chip headed home to Maryland! Great ride with great friends!

Yam Kronen tells us “On my way to my happy place, the beach, I hugged a tiny house.”

Irish Spud gets another magnet for the beer fridge!

Our little nugget from that “other” ride (the little ol’ Tour de France):

Italian rider Jonathan Milan timed his attack perfectly to win the eighth stage of the Tour de France in a sprint finish, overtaking Australian Kaden Groves on his left and holding off Belgian rider Wout van Aert by about half a bike length. Defending champion Tadej Pogačar kept the yellow jersey after finishing in the main pack.

7 Days of Potatoes Pedaling

Just shy of that 6000 mile mark for our 131 potatoes that are off the couch.

One more potato makes it official today. Yes Ma’am Yam crossed the finish line!

And our potato happenings for the day:

Chip-n-Dale rode the La Paz Waterfall Endurance Ride in Costa Rica this morning.

Bud Spud got up early and biked the Lewes Rehoboth trail. Next up is planning to bike later to get ice cream with A-Peeling Esther and Micro Chip. Hoping to get up early and do it again tomorrow before heading back home.

You Be Yameen tells us “My wife went out of town for the weekend and her ebike found its way on the back of my truck.”

Marshmallow Fluff Potato reports “my magnet is here :} viva le tour :]”

Potato Chip Rock: “Haven’t ridden a 90 minute ride on the Peloton bike in months. Working through the backlog now. 5 down, 5 ninety minute rides to go.”

Our little nugget from that “other” ride (the little ol’ Tour de France):

Tadej Pogačar didn’t give up the yellow jersey at the 2025 Tour de France for long. The defending champion and three-time winner of the Tour de France sprinted past Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel and top contender Jonas Vingegaard near the finish line to win Stage 7 and take back the overall lead

Day 6: Pedal, Pedal, Pedal

We’re rolling along in Le Tour de Couch Potato and we’re just about to 5000 miles. Look at those taters go!

TODAY’S SPUDS who have achieved 100 miles: Swisher Sweet Potato, Spud Funk, & Potato Chip Rock. That will bring us to 7 total Couch Potatoes!

And our potato happenings for the day:

Betty Crocker Tater got her miles by teaching her Disco Themed Cycling Class at the Taylor Bend YMCA.

Spud Funk got in miles before flying out in the morning. Have a pedestrian championship coming on the track.

Potabella gagged on a bug. She says she needs to breathe through her nose.

Harley Taterson did a quick warm up today to get ready for Saturday Tour at Kent Island!

Our little nugget from that “other” ride (the little ol’ Tour de France):

Irish rider Ben Healy won a hilly sixth stage of the Tour de France after a long solo breakaway on Thursday and Mathieu van der Poel took back the yellow jersey from defending champion Tadej Pogacar by one second.

Tour Day 5: Hump Day

Not yet one week into Le Tour de Couch Potato and we’re closing in on 4000 miles. Make this Hump Day a feverish pedal day!

NEW POTATOES who have achieved 100 miles: Fo’Fanna Potato & Sewin’ Spuds. I believe that gives us 4 in 5 days!

Here’s what was happening as we were stomping on those pedals:

Rain or Shine Tater had another early morning spin class! Taught a group of expectant mothers!

Irish Spud was “Gettin’ it done early in the morning!” while Chip-n-Dale toured Alaska for a while today. Did the Creamer’s Field Interval Ride and the Boreal Forest Trail Interval Ride.

Sewin’ Spuds did more indoor miles while checking out Wimbledon and Potato Chip Rock was back riding after two days off for work.

Bud Spud and A-Peeling Esther rode bikes from Lewes Beach to Rehoboth for the
Cottage tour. They report a fun, but very hot, ride while avoiding beach traffic.

As always, an update from the little ol’ Tour de France:

Remco Evenepoel Sails to Victory in the Individual Time Trial (ITT), Stage 5 of the 2025 Tour de France. While Evenepoel was a heavy favorite, Tadej Pogačar was the big surprise with his speedy second— and shift into the yellow jersey.

A very special Thank You to Duchess Potato who was holding down the fort for Le Tour as we had our Grand Depart this year. Normally, we’re a team effort to bring this to you. I was unexpectedly unavailable so she was a Solo Potato – and a phenomenal potato she is!! Now to get my buns on the bike so she isn’t the only one to complete all Le Tours!!

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber

Day 4 Already?!

It’s Day Four of Le Tour de Couch Potato – and while you’re enjoying this un-Four-gettable cycling tour, don’t Four-get to Log your miles & Check your stats.

Let’s raise our hands in celebration with Marshmallow Fluff Potato, who became our 2nd rider to achieve 100 miles in Le Tour de Couch Potato today. While she is anticipating the glorious finisher magnet to come, let’s all be proud of our group total mileage. As of 5pm ET, we’ve surpassed 2800 miles (2831 exactly). WHOOP!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the pros over in France who lumbered up the alps – so here is your Stage Four update:

Three-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar won Stage 4 after several late climbs and inched closer to yellow jersey holder Mathieu van der Peul.

Keep on pedaling Potatoes – we’ll be back tomorrow with a fresh report. VIVE LE TOUR

Third pedal day for Potatoes

Weather didn’t hold back the intrepid spuds as they crested the 2000 total mile mark on Day 3 of Le Tour de Couch Potato.

For Chili Cheese Fries & CycoTater, rain was the theme for today’s pedal – with CCF taking it indoors & CT making it through a #soaker. Grape Tater passed along this gem to other early morning riders “Lesson of the Day: The batteries in your bike lights should be charged regularly, even if you have not used them since the last Tour!!” In other news – there is a little ride going on in France and we snatched a quick highlight for those not tuned in:

Stage 3 of the 2025 Tour de France featured a gruesome crash by one Belgian cyclist and came down to a massive sprint to the finish line won by one of his countrymen. Tim Merlier edged out Italian Jonathan Milan to win Monday’s stage.

Some tour stats for those who love the numbers:

Of the 205 “Couchies” registered, 94 of you have logged your first ride for a total tour mileage exceeding 2000 miles (2156 to be exact). Congratulations to all.

VIVE LE TOUR! Don’t forget to:

Day 2: the miles are adding up

By 5pm Eastern Time, we are already past 1300 miles on our 2nd day of peddling.

In a thrilling finish, Mathieu van der Poel claimed victory in stage 2 of the Tour de France, showcasing his sprinting prowess.

In more exciting news, our own Couch Potatoes have been piling on the mileage this year with over 1300 miles in only two days (and that’s counting at our 5pm ET checkpoint). In a story that is dear to many of our hearts, Yam Kronen is “Building up Potato miles before I travel up north to meet my new granddaughter. She’s supposed to be here Monday!”

Other potatoes saw Fuzzy Bees, Donkeys, Snakes, Deer and Roundabouts LOL – and experienced “Mashed Potato Legs” (??) and Humidity. No worries: we all triumphed over these speed bumps and pedaled on through it to a Day 2 finish.

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT – our first Potato Finisher has been crowned! Green Eggs & Yam logged 102 miles in a short two days.

Congrats to Green Eggs & Yam for the quick work and to all the earnest peddling taters out there. More tomorrow – in the meantime: VIVE LE TOUR!

First Day 2025

Well….., here we are = day 1 of Le Tour de Couch Potato and already 400+ miles logged. We LOVE this – keep it coming. Here is the report from the tuber fields:

Salt Life Yam reports that “Uh getting that back tire pumped up…after some neglect….” and Marshmallow Fluff Potato AND Yam Kronin said “Beat the heat by riding indoors! & “Too hot! Peloton miles today.” Meanwhile Matt Cunningham noted that it’s “great to be back :> thanks again for organizing this!”

Chip-n-Dale rode through Lost Canyons in Simi Valley, Gary Honeman had a beautiful Day on the Eastern Shore of Maryland Along the Chesapeake Bay. Sewin’Spuds and FoFanna headed out to Chincoteague to kick off our potato miles to kick off another great start to Potato season.

Manntater had this to report LOL: Le Tour de Couch Potato: Day 1 – From Dismal Swamp to Sweaty SocksIt’s official—I’ve dragged my friends and today, the wheels started spinning… literally. This sounds doable, right? Sure—until you realize we’re trading Netflix binges for actual pedaling. The only Tour we’re used to involves chips, a couch, and a remote and alcohol.Day 1: Dismal Swamp—Not as Dismal as It SoundsThis morning, our ragtag peloton (aka me and my brave friends) met up at the Dismal Swamp trail. Despite its ominous name, it was oddly peaceful. Birds chirping, tires spinning, and only mild grumbling about “whose idea was this?”We knocked out 10.5 miles before our butts staged a protest. I’m convinced my bike seat was engineered by medieval torturers.Bonus Miles: Neighborhood Victory LapLater, like the overachiever I’m pretending to be, I squeezed in another 5 miles around the neighborhood. That brings me to 15.5 miles total for Day 1! And yes, I rewarded myself with a cold drink, a nap, and possibly a donut (don’t judge).

LeAnne, Troy, Olga, Nashed all clocked in: Thanks for the motivation to keep moving and got 10 minutes on day 1 (LeAnne), First ride of the season – and I can tell (Troy), I saw a deteriorated house next to a graveyard (COOL Olga), and “Not a huge ride, but I’m on the board!” (Nashed – we love you).

REMINDER: Log your miles & Check your stats:

Tomorrow is July 5, 2025

Tomorrow, tomorrow, there’s always tomorrow…

Yes: tomorrow July 5th is DAY 1 of Tour de France cycling but more importantly: first day of your Le Tour de Couch Potato cycling challenge. Thank you for joining us for another epic year – a few reminders:

  • Enter miles using this link: MILES – password was provided during registration (2025Tour).
  • Use the same email address that you provided us during the registration process when you log your miles. This is the way we match the correct potato to his/ her miles for the day.
  • Please, please, please – for the love of all that is spud holy, don’t enter miles more than once. It may take us a couple hours to update the master sheet – doesn’t mean we don’t love you! Just means that we audit the entries and remove duplicates and other human errors. Everything will be cool by end of day – relax and relish your awesome miles.
  • Check on your miles (end of day recommended) using this link:
    2025 LTdCP TRACKING.
  • We’ll close registration in a couple days – double check that “2025 LTdCP Tracking” file to make sure you’ve signed up. Those who completed the 2024 tour were automatically registered, and we’ve reached a record number of cycling spuds this year: 201.

If you missed it earlier, this super cool magnet is your reward for completing all 100 miles in the allotted time (Jul 5-27). As soon as we see the full mileage entered, we’ll send along a link to order (approx $3 plus shipping).

Celebrating 15 years of Le Tour de Couch Potato. Vive le tour!

Final Preparations

As pedaling time gets closer, be sure your bike is ready and your gear is set. We will be sending you information to log your miles once pedaling has begun. Remember, you will need to log your miles using the same email you used to register. If you don’t, you won’t get credit for your miles.

There will be an “almost” daily blog that is posted to reflect all of our potato miles. Almost because sometimes the real job and life gets in the way. Follow your fellow potatoes to see how they are doing. Check out the Hall of Fame to see if Duchess Potato and I (Madam Tuber) can keep that perfect streak going – 15 years. Watch out for those DUD SPUDs and help them get off the couch!

Let’s get ready to pedal.

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber
