One Week Left to Pedal

With one week to pedal, hang on to your helmets, this is going to be a one long update. We’re calling out our potato groups to make sure everyone knows where we have them (if they aren’t yet finished). Before we do that, we have to shout out our 10 newest official taters who are stomping on those pedals for their magnet. Swan Song Spud took a big leap in miles today to finish with a total of 146.0 miles. Potato Cake is also adding up the miles – 121.6 miles to be exact – for another magnet. Mann, I feel like a Potato is over the finish line with 119.7 miles.

Our next group of potatoes finished in a pack – really close to each other on miles. 50 in 50 Potato leads the way in this group with 106.95 miles. Right behind her is Hazeltot with 106.89 miles. Nipping on her heals is I Do Potato at 106.72 miles. Less than a mile back is our next finisher – Tater Malla at 105.83 miles. Nip it in the Spud did just that, crossing the century mark with 104.86 miles.

Toni the Spud – Lovely ride through the country. Made a stop at the Veterans Cemetery to visit a friend who lost the battle against multiple myeloma. Rode to the entrance of the Arc Encounter to take a peek at this infamous Ark, and finally relaxed knowing I completed the challenge with 104.79 miles.

Our tenth finisher today is Yam Kronen, bringing it in with 102.76 miles. Congratulations to all of our finishers today. Keep it going to get to that 30K mark!

Potato Happenings

Instead of focusing on just our taters with 30 to go, we’re going to group our taters who are off the couch into 10 mile groups.

Hanging out with 10 or less miles to go (these are our 90s tots): Darth Tater, Kim Jong Spud, Potato Loco, Spudding Genius, Simmering Spud, Tuber Effect, Kartoffel Kaiser and here’s what they have reported today. Darth Tater – I biked completely (and only) around my neighborhood and clocked 39.9 miles! Whew! (Picture to follow)

Our potatoes in the 80s include: La Nuova Patata, New Potato, Campbell’s Potato Soup, Commissioner Potato, Disorderly Tater, Fry Fry Baby, Artful Tuber, Hash Slinger, CFNo Spud. And here’s what they have to say today: Disorderly Tater – Two hot potatoes logging miles through the back roads of Carroll county, Maryland. Finding shade where we could. No rain in the forecast, but soaring temperatures helped us become baked potatoes. The goal is in sight.

The potatoes in the now “30 to go” – or the 70s are: Irish Spud, Harley Taterson, Spuddy Holly, Russet Ranger, Sour Mash Spud, Last of the Potatoes, Pump up the Yam, Kato Potato, Duchess Potato, Grape Tater, Baked Potato, A-Peeling Esther. One report from this group: Duchess Potato – First ride back after carpal tunnel surgery; one-handed & slow – and annoying! – but got to get that magnet and keep the record perfect!

In the 60, we find Tottin’ Terry, MelaTater, Hurray for Potatoes, Pedaler McPotato, Microchip, Frappin’ Spud, Space Yam, Yo’ Potato, How to Train Your Tater, Rain or Shine Tater, Haus of Spuds, Spuddles, Spudzilla

Those that are just over half way (in the 50 mile range) are: Salt Life Yam, Star-Spudded, Yamazing, Wolfpack Potato, Racing Spud, Mohs Potatoes, Potato Lane, Tottering Tater. And Potato Lane is checking in with the “Longest ride I have ever done!”

Not yet to half way – still have a bit of pedaling to do this week – is our 40s group. Gator Bait Tater, Spudnik, Cheeze Fries, Irri-tater, Eveready Yam, Manntater, Pesty Potato, Seafaring Spud. And their potato happenings are: Spudnik – A hot one today but I got through it! Here’s to the potatoes!!

A third the way done with their tour, in the 30s are: Dino Potato, Truckin’ Tuber, Senator Spud, Dre’ Tater, Trick-or-Treaster Tot, Bike Shop Peddler, Tubular Tater, Maraschino Potato, Bar Fry, Hashed Healy, Tuberski. We did hear from one of them as well. Dino Potato – Got an early start to this hot day in beautiful Carrol County. Riding up by the YMCA, up to high school along 97.

The potatoes who have between 20 and 29.99 miles are: Lenko Latkes, Luke Fry Walker, Judd the Spud.

We have some in the 10 group as well: Fat Tire Tater, Hot Potato, Jedi Spud, Sweet Kinder Spud.

And our single digit taters – need to get a lot of miles this week tots: Bubba Spud, D’Yameen.

Our other potato happenings come from our official taters. They are still logging those miles, helping us on our way to 30K. Fry Alicia – Well went outside this morning and on my way home almost got taken out by a deer….I normally see them coming but this one made a sneak attack😳😂. Luckily I didn’t hit it or vise versa and all is well! Yogatato – Did a mood-boosting mid-afternoon ride on the P. Grateful for the motivation, Madam T! CycoTater – Whew. Quite the balmy ride this morning…. Helped 2 baby turtles cross the road:) Cajun Gator Tater – Because every miles to get to 30k! Chilli Cheese Fries – I’m going to keep going… Fo Fanna Potato – No one told me that when I encouraged Sewin Spuds to become a potato that after a couple years he was going to try to log more miles than me. Whhhaaaattt? I have inadvertently created an in house rivalry! (Madam Tuber LOVES this!!!) Loch Ness Potato – Fast ride down to Windmill Point in Virginia’s beautiful NNK in 93% humidity! Mythical Patata – Sweltering in FL so forced inside for Peloton rides.

Second Saturday

Our second Saturday is always a HUGE pedal day and today did not disappoint. Along with a bunch of pedaled miles, we had 9 more potatoes make it official today and we’re over half way to our 30,000 mile goal.

Leading the way over the finish line is Nashed Potato with 123.7 miles. Swisher Sweet Potato also has a new magnet for the fridge with 112.0 miles. Mystery Spud has 111.3 miles and a shout out “No story, but I appreciate you managing this. This will be my 10th magnet. And thanks to Spud Luda who told me about this 10 years ago.” Milby Crisps is past the century mark as well with 109.1 miles.

Spud Lass had an eventful day to earn a magnet. With 105.5 miles, experiencing torrential downpours here in southeastern Virginia I was not able to ride outside so I hopped on my trainer and rode with the leaders and did the first part of Stage 14 virtually! Even though it took me a “bit” longer to go the same distance, I was able to complete my mileage and cross Le Tour De Couch Potato finish line. Mission accomplished! I’m sure “French fries” will be on the menu of tonight’s celebratory dinner!

Madam Tuber is done with 105.0 miles – number 14 in the books – my perfect record remains. Now I need the Duchess to join me. Chili Cheese Fries crossed the line at spin class this morning with 104.5 miles! Loly Pop Potato is happy to report in 101.6 miles for another magnet. Tuber Sox Fan earned her magnet with 100.07 miles on a ride with fellow tour riders Uetz Chips and Dre Tater.

We still have 29 spuds making up our ever changing “30 to go” group. Look for our next official taters to come from this group: Swan Song Spud, Nip it in the Spud, Kim Jong Spud, Yam Kronen, Spudding Genius, Simmering Spud, Mann, I feel like a Potato, Tuber Effect, 50 in 50 Potato, Tater Malla, Potato Loco, Hazeltot, La Nuova Patata, I Do Potato, New Potato, Campbell’s Potato Soup, Fry Fry Baby, Hash Slinger, Irish Spud, Harley Taterson, Kartoffel Kaiser, Spuddy Holly, Artful Tuber, Sour Mash Spud, Pump up the Yam, Potato Cake, Grape Tater, A-Peeling Esther

Potato Happenings

Here’s what the rest of the potatoes have going on.

Salt Life Yam – Dodging rain bursts made for unplanned sprints…earned my green jersey! – And I’m sure you looked GREAT in that green jersey!!

Surfin Spud – Last long ride before IM Lake Placid on 7/21. – We’re wishing you luck in Lake Placid – be sure to report in!

CycoTater – I believed the weather radar that showed no rain in my area for the next 3 hours….One wet, waterlogged potato. – Waterlogged but almost to 200 miles!

CFNo Spud – Well Tri Spud dropped me like a sack of potatoes but I forge on! – You forged on into the “30 to go” group!!

Decapotato Fin de semanas y unas millas mas (Weekend and a few more miles) – I think I got this translation right???

Microchip – Back on the bike today! I had to take a break because…….my first grandchild was born! – Congratulations on your grandchild – future potato!!

Captain Spud – Chasing the leaderboard now. – Keep those miles coming toward our 30,000.

14 Days of Pedaling – 9 More Official Potatoes

We’ve ridden 14 days – two weeks in and we’re adding 9 more potatoes to the list of those who have made it official.

Even Stephen Spud couldn’t quite make it an even 115 but 114.98 miles is enough for a magnet and to call it official. Price is Right Potato also crossed the finish line today for a magnet with 107.81 miles. Captain Spud piloted his bike for 104.9 miles – over that century mark to make it official today. Potato Sticks added another magnet to the collection today with 104.6 miles. Coming in just behind her is Casey at the Bat Potato who will also add another magnet to the fridge with 104.53 miles. Susan Spudkin stomped on the pedals to get over the finish line today – we’ve got her with a total of 102.16 miles. Yam Session was yamming indeed for 101.48 miles so we’ll call it “official” for her as well. Cajun Gator Tater finished up riding the Mississippi River levee, usually ride through a cow pasture with lots of cows quite close. There were no cows out today so he had to settle for seeing Mike the Tiger as he wrapped up with 101.3 miles for his magnet. Dr. Potato Head was very precise in wrapping up the miles and hit the century mark on the head with 100.0 miles. Another big group today – congratulations to all of you!

Where will out next finishers come from? I’m betting it will be our “Less than 30 to Go” group. My goal is to finish tomorrow – come join me!! We’ve got 29 potatoes checking in today in this group: Swan Song Spud, Spudding Genius, Madam Tuber, Simmering Spud, Mann, I feel like a Potato, Tuber Effect, Mystery Spud, Milby Crisps, Tater Malla, Chili Cheese Fries, Hazeltot, Nip it in the Spud, Tuber Sox Fan, La Nuova Patata, Yam Kronen, New Potato, Spud Lass, Nashed Potato, Potato Loco, Hash Slinger, Irish Spud, Harley Taterson, Artful Tuber, Campbell’s Potato Soup, Sour Mash Spud, Pump up the Yam, Loly Pop Potato, Potato Cake, Fry Fry Baby

Potato Happenings

They weren’t alone in their adventures. We had several others out there, adding up the miles, either toward their magnet or toward our 30,000 mile goal. Here’s the rest of our potato happenings.

Potato Lane – Beautiful and actually cool morning ride in south Louisiana. Toni the Spud – I’m away from my amazing riding club for the month of July but I happened to meet a local cyclist here in Kentucky. He led me on a very scenic ride with lots of hills as well as free-range dogs! He knows which ones are friendly and those who will make you pedal faster! Oh Kay Tuber – Another early morning ride with Racing Spud! Nice breeze and a little rain to cool us off. La Nuova Patata – About a third of the ride was in the rain-not unpleasant at all as opposed to relentless heat and humidity!

Administrivia

Our potatoes have pedaled 14230.28 miles toward that 30,000 mile goal (only 15769.72to go). We’re not quite half way so it’s going to be a stretch to get there – can we do it? We still have 154 potatoes pedaling and 47 potatoes on the couch (no one got off the couch since yesterday).

On a personal note – one of our original potatoes (and my sister) has a birthday today. She isn’t riding with us this year but she was instrumental in getting Le Tour de Couch Potato started with us 14 years ago (she must have been a baby then). If you see Carolyn Quinn (Red Mist Potato), wish her a Happy Birthday!

11 Days, 11K Miles

Tuberville was out with a group searching for other potatoes and found not only ice cream but a magnet (125.73 miles). Almighty Spud and Drunk Spud are both over the finish line again, earning another magnet again with 108.0 miles. Spud Funk also wrapped it up today, across the century mark with 102.8 miles. Congrats go out to all our newest official taters. That brings our total finishers to 17 so far.

We’re keeping an eye on that “30 or less to go” group for our next group of finishers. I suspect it will come from this crew: Fry Alicia, Winning Spud, Sewin’ Spuds, Loch Ness Potato, CycoTater, Potato Chip Rock, Yogatato, Fry Like an Eagle, Spudding Genius, Tracie Tots, Oh-Kay-Tuber, Ain’t No Tater High Enough, and Hash Slinger. We should see them earn their magnets soon.

Potato Happenings

Telling us about their expeditions in Potato Happenings today are:

Darth Tater A big pine tree fell across the neighborhood street over night so I flagged down a car and he and dragged the tree to the side of the road. Two workouts in one! Potato Lane did more miles in the mountains of Maryland! Chip-n-Dale rode Spring Creek Trail and East Canyon Reservoir rides through Park City, Utah.

Harley Taterson found a field of sunflowers as a backdrop to this hot sunny day on the Eastern Shore of MD. CycoTater got out for a ride this morning before it gets wicked hot. Now I’m only a par-boiled tater…

Oh-Kay Tuber Spuds unite in the OBX! MelaTater First ride ever on a Peleton. Tom Tater Ride for breakfast @ Joey Bag Of Donuts (yum – more donuts. I think I know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow after my ride).

I hear that yesterday, Buck A Spud, Pump up the Yam and Tuberville went to College Farm Station near Wmsburg VA to get ice cream while looking for You Be YAmeen , Toni the Spud , Holy Potato , Milby Crisp and D’YAmeen. They didn’t have any potato skins to pay for their purchase so they got creamed.

Salt Life Yam summed it up for all of us with “Hot! Hot! Hot!”

We may have our first mashed potato with a report of Casey at the Bat Potato falling off the bike at mile 10. Hoping all is well and Casey can continue.
