Registration NOW open

That’s right potatoes…it’s now time to register for the 2021 Le Tour de Couch Potato.

Use the registration link on our home page to register for this year’s Le Tour and please remember the email address you register with. This will be used for mileage tracking as well. It will need to be unique to you – no sharing with others in the house.

We are not capping our entries this year but will close registration as the tour starts on June 26th so don’t delay.

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber

Hi all…Madam Tuber here with a final update before registration..
2021’s Tour is only one month away! The Grand Depart of the 2021 Le Tour de Couch Potato is June 26th so dust off your spandex, polish up the pedals and get some starch in those legs.
Now is the time to start recruiting other potential potatoes who may want to ride with us. If you know anyone, send them our way so they can follow us and register when it’s time.
Be sure when it comes time to register, you remember the email address you register with…if it’s different from what you use to track mileage, you won’t get credit.

2021 Dates to remember:

  • Ride dates: June 26th – July 18th
  • Registration will open next Tuesday morning, June 1st and close at 12:01 AM, June 26th – as the ride begins.

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber

LTdCP starts in just two months

2021’s Tour is coming at us fast and furious. We’re now about two months to go until the Grand Depart of the 2021 Le Tour de Couch Potato so dust off your spandex, polish up the pedals and get some starch in those legs.

More Potatoes!

Now is the time to start recruiting other potatoes who may want to ride with us. If you know anyone, direct them to this website so they can follow us and register when it’s time. Our past year participants will notice more engagement online with the launch of our new website. We are eliminating emails in favor of regular blog posts. You’ll receive one more email at “one month to go” > once we start our registration process, we’ll migrate from emails to the website, GoogleDocs and blog.

Bookmark the website here (www.letourdecouchpotato.com) and click “follow” using the link in the lower right of the site (we recommend you follow using your potato name!). Registration and mile tracking will all be done through the website – and is based on your email address. Be sure when it comes time to register, you remember the email address you register with…if it’s different than what you use to track mileage, you won’t get credit.

2021 Dates to remember:

  • Ride dates: June 26th – July 18th
  • Registration will open Tuesday morning, June 1st and close at 12:01 AM, June 26th – as the ride begins.
  • Check our RULES for more details

LTdCP 2021 less than 3 months away

That’s right – 2021’s Tour is coming at us fast and furious this year since we rode in the fall last year. We have just under three months to go until the Grand Depart of the 2021 Le Tour de Couch Potato.

We also have more changes coming for you this year and more online engagement. We have an awesome new website and will be eliminating emails in favor of a daily (or almost daily) blog post.

You’ll receive this email, a “two months out” email and then a “one month to go” email. Once we start our registration process, we’ll migrate from emails to the website, GoogleDocs and blog. Follow us using the link in the lower right of the site (we recommend you follow using your potato name!)

The “Rules”
  • From June 26th – July 18th, you must ride at least 100 miles (no bonus for riding extra – just bragging rights!). Finishers get a “fancy” refrigerator magnet to show all your friends (preview coming soon!)
  • Any miles ridden on a bike, and that can be tracked with an odometer, count toward your 100. If you attend a spin class and “guess” how far you went, that doesn’t count! The bike can be a mountain bike, street bike, recumbent bike, stationary bike…just track the miles.
  • Your bike must be entirely human powered…no electric bikes.
  • Mile’s running/walking don’t count…
  • Post your online mileage daily – or close to – so you’ll be included in the daily update. If you opt to email your mileage and I don’t get it on the update, that’s your fault for not following directions 🙂 NOTE: The daily update takes a while to compile so if you posted your mileage in the evening, it may not get included until the next day.
  • Submit MILES please. Yep – we have lots of international riders and hope to gain more. I, however, learned conversion of the metric system in junior high which was way too many years ago to count. Help a potato out here, please!
  • Updates come out almost daily – sometimes I get busy with work (or just lazy) and don’t get them out. The updates will be posted to Facebook as well
  • All riders get a potato name and I reserve the right to change your name on a whim. I also reserve the right to harass anyone I want to – hope you have thick potato skin
  • We’re here to have fun and this is a once a year event, make the most of it – have fun with us

Happy Pedaling,Madam Tuber, Duchess Potato and Bubba Spud

One Month to the Grand Depart

10th Anniversary of LTdCP

Madam Tuber here…it’s one month until the Grand Depart for the 2020 Couch Potato. Registration will open on Saturday morning, August 1st. I’ll send out an email with a registration link – you must use the link to register or you aren’t “in”. I’ll send a couple reminders throughout August with updates on who’s registered and how close to max capacity we are. We’ll cap at 200 riders.

Registration will close at 12:01 AM, August 29th or when we reach 200 participants. Last year we had just over 170 that registered so we aren’t reducing the numbers, just implementing a max number.

Remember the “Rules”

  1. From August 29 – September 20, you must ride at least 100 miles (no bonus for riding extra – just bragging rights!). Finishers get a “fancy” refrigerator magnet to show all your friends (preview coming soon!).
  2. Any miles ridden on a bike, and that can be tracked with an odometer, count toward your 100. If you attend a spin class and “guess” how far you went, that doesn’t count! The bike can be a mountain bike, street bike, recumbent bike, stationary bike…just track the miles.
  3. NEW THIS YEAR due to questions – your bike must be entirely human powered…no electric bikes.
  4. Mile’s running/walking don’t count.
  5. Post your online mileage daily – or close to – so you’ll be included in the daily update. If you opt to email your mileage and I don’t get it on the update, that’s your fault for not following directions 🙂 NOTE: The daily update takes a while to compile so if you posted your mileage in the evening, it may not get included until the next day.
  6. Submit MILES please. Yep – we have lots of international riders and hope to gain more. I, however, learned conversion of the metric system in junior high which was way too many years ago to count. Help a potato out here, please!
  7. Email updates come out almost daily – sometimes I get busy with work (or just lazy) and don’t get them out. I will post the updates to Facebook as well.
  8. All riders get a potato name and I reserve the right to change your name on a whim. I also reserve the right to harass anyone I want to – hope you have thick potato skin.

We’re here to have fun during this once-a-year event, make the most of it – have fun with us. Happy Pedaling, Madam Tuber

Here Comes the 10th Annual Le Tour de Couch Potato

It’s true – the (delayed) 2020 Le Tour de Couch Potato is three months away.

This year’s tour will start on August 29th and go until September 20th. We hope you can join us as we pedal across the world.

In 2020 we will be celebrating ten years of pedaling – our first year had 5 finishers and now we’re over 100. We will once again limit our entries this year to 200 riders. There are only a couple of us who compile/compose the results and Swimming Spud signs my paychecks so I can’t be doing this at work. Good thing I don’t work on Fridays so today doesn’t count Kevin!

Registration Opens Aug 1

Registration will open on August 1st and close at midnight August 29th. Be sure you are registered by the first day of the tour this year – NO LATE ENTRIES (you know who you are!). We’ll use an online registration and mile reporting again this year since we had success with it the past.

Emails…., Remember you’ll need your own email address – you can’t share with a spouse or other family member. You also need to use the SAME email address for all mile reporting. More to come as we get closer to pedal time. If you know of others who are interested in joining the Couch Potato this year, please forward this website along. If you are not interested in joining us this year, just let us know and we’ll remove you from further updates.

Looking forward to another successful year.
Happy Pedaling, Madam Tuber

Let’s get ready to PEDAL

OH – so excited…it’s almost time.

Only 5 days left to register for the 2019 Le Tour de Couch Potato and we’re already up to 160 participants: lots of returning potatoes and several newbies as well. We’ll be taking off on our ride Saturday at midnight. This will be the last email that goes out to everyone – going forward, just those registered and those who specifically asked to be included in updates will be on the distribution. Remember, registration will close as the ride begins…midnight Friday into Saturday this weekend.

Gasp! A DUD SPUD?

Because I was asked (really??? – remember I get to be snarky!!!)…Yes, it is true that if you don’t finish you are a DUD SPUD…there is no partial credit or participation trophy. What you can anticipate is a beautiful refrigerator magnet for all those who finish 100 or more miles. The image is hand drawn by my brother-in-law exclusively for our ride. A preview is coming soon!

Logging your daily mileage

The next piece of info you need…the link to log your miles. You’ll use the link provided to enter your daily miles – but not before Saturday (we delete the early ones). You’ll need to enter the same email address you registered with in order to get the credit applied correctly. If the email is wrong, the miles will get logged, just not to your name. Be sure to check the daily update email and confirm your mileage is correct…if your miles aren’t included, just reach and we’ll track down what might have happened.

Are you IN or OUT?

Finally for today, I have attached a list of those currently registered with a continuation of the “Naming of the New Potatoes” included. We’re not quite done with names but getting closer. Shout out to my sissies who have been helping this year – it’s a family affair!

Happy Pedaling, Madam Tuber
