Le Tour de Couch Potato 2024 Final Report

We did have four potatoes finish up after our July 21 report so we’ll give them their due: Senator Spud crossed the finish line 106.5 miles, Fitz and the Tater Tantrums is also done 104.12 miles. Russet Ranger earned a magnet with 101.0 miles and let’s not forget Tuberski who wrapped up this year’s tour with 100.2 miles. Congratulations to all of them. Now for the final report!

Le Tour de Couch Potato is Done!

Oh, the places we’ve pedaled, the miles we’ve spun!
Le Tour de Couch Potato is finally done!
One hundred thirty-seven potatoes finished, so strong and so brave,
Crossed the finish line with a smile and a wave.

We rode twenty-three thousand miles, give or take a few,
With determination and spirit, we surely pulled through!
One super spud soared past seven hundred, oh my!
Another flew over five hundred, nearly touching the sky!

Eight potatoes pushed past three hundred, what a feat!
And twenty-four more topped two hundred, oh so sweet!
But let’s not forget our sixty-five DUD Spuds too,
Who tried their best, but couldn’t quite push through.

From Duchess Potato and Madam Tuber, we say
A big “thank you” to all who joined us to play!
Your pedaling prowess has left us in awe,
Each mile you pedaled, you reported, we saw.

So mark your calendars, don’t be late!
July 5th, 2025, save the date!
We’ll gather again for another great ride,
With potato power and cycling pride!

So until next year, keep those wheels turning,
For Le Tour de Couch Potato, we’ll all be yearning!

Last Day of 2024 Le Tour de Couch Potato

This is what we have entered as of this evening. Pedaling continues until midnight tonight so I will get the final race report published on Wednesday, July 24th! Nine more potatoes have made it over the finish line to be official. Congratulations to all of them on the achievement.

Fry Fry Baby was hanging at 97 miles for a while and got over that finish line today to earn a magnet with 113.8 miles. Tubular Tater is also done after we kept an eye out for this finish as well – 110.5 miles in the books. Sour Mash Spud crossed the century mark today with 105.09 miles and a new magnet. Tottin’ Terry (102.18 miles) and Racing Spud (102.0 miles) were neck and neck across the finish line to sneak in on the final day.

Lenko Latkes with 101.4 miles tells us “I much prefer a ride to somewhere, but I pushed myself to do 22 miles to finish. Next year, maybe start a little earlier so 55 miles does not have to be done in 2 days. Eek!” – whatever it takes, right 🙂

Spuddy Holly is one mile past the finish line for a magnet with 101.0 miles – another official potato added to our ranks. Microchip checks in with 100.4 miles and reports “Across the finish line! Thank you once again for doing this and motivating me to put in the miles!” Also done for another magnet is Gator Bait Tater, finishing up with 100.34 miles.

Potato Happenings

In other Potato Happenings we had a group of potatoes reporting in after pedaling together – sounds like they had a great ride and finished it off with a festive beverage: Spudly – Had a beautiful ride on the Va Capital Trail with Yogatato, Pump Up the Yam and Buck-A-Spud. Buck-A-Spud – Had a great final Tour de Couch Potato ride on the Virginia Capital Trail with Pump up the Yam, Spudly, and Yogatato! Yogatato – Finished the TdCP at Billsburg Brewery after an awesome Capital Trail Ride with fellow yogis, Buck-A-Spud, Pump Up the Yam and Spudly. I was 4 miles away from 250 so rode the P for a few minutes when I got home. As always, thank you Madam T for the fun and inspiration! Pump up the Yam – A leisurely day of riding the Virginia Capital Trail with the missus aka Buck-a-Spud, Yogatato and Spudly (should make him Twice Baked) to finish off a grand time. Again. Beer at the end didn’t hurt…They all checked in with us!

Here’s what everyone else had to tell us: Potato Chip Rock – Thank you once again for hosting this fun event! Golly D Tater – A big THANK YOU. Toni the Spud – Kentucky has been a scenic yet challenging place to cycle due to the excessive hills! I’m just one strong potato now! Irish Spud – Another terrific Tour! Thank You Madam Tuber! Christmas Potato – Thanks for another great year! Loch Ness Potato – Thanks for a great Tour! Mythical Patata – Started the Bon Ton Roulet in the finger lakes- any other potatoes here?? Bumble Spud – Fun! Thank you for running this event. You Be YAmeen – D YAmeen and I did 25.01 miles together as a team. Buck a Spud and Pump up the Yam rode 30 plus miles which made Buck a Spud a Thrice baked potato and Tuberville was headed out for a spin to see if she could become a Thrice Baked Potato. Holy Potato had to retrieve her cat so she spent time on the road in a car . Milby Crisps and Toni and Potato and Holy Potato are all twice baked. It’s been fun riding the Tour this year. Thanks

Thank you all as well!!! But we’re not quite done yet. There are still a couple hours to pedal and we hope our potatoes that are close are crossing the finish line before midnight tonight.

Wolfpack Potato – Managed to get in one more ride before this epic event comes to a close. Early morning was beautiful with temp about 70 degrees. Many thanks to Madam Tuber and Duchess Potato for getting me off the couch again this year!

Last Weekend of Pedaling

With only two days left now, we had a big pedal day today and welcomed 12 new potatoes to the ranks of “official”. Congratulations go out to the following spuds:

Pump up the Yam is the farthest past with finish line for a new magnet with 110.4 miles and Kim Jong Spud isn’t far behind with 106.1 miles. Tottering Tater is also over the century mark to decorate his fridge a bit more with 105.48 miles.

Star-Spudded reports a winning battle with a couple squirrels that tried to bring us a mashed potato – instead, a magnet with 102.8 miles.

Potato Lane pedaled 102.73 to get “My first Tour done!!! Woohoo!” Her riding partner is giving her a shout-out as well: Cajun Gator Tater tells us “The Tater tots were at a sleepover so I got to do some miles with Potato Lane as she finished her first Tour!”

Commissioner Potato once again tells us “we got’her done.” with 101.53 miles.

Disorderly Tater was almost a DUD Spud but came through with 101.53 miles. “Was worried because we got rained out on Wednesday and couldn’t do our last potato miles. We were sad. BUT! we realized we could ride Friday after work (but it was going to be another hottish time). When we woke up, all of the work computers were down…. What to do????? I know, lets ride our potato miles while it was still cool! And so we did… we rode in the cool breeze….. and drifted over the 100 potato mile mark to finish up another year!”

Following closely behind are Hurray for Potatoes who finished with 101.44 miles and Tuber Effect at 101.18 miles, both earning new magnets today.

Kato Potato – “I was hoping to do my last 5 miles on a bike, but I’m leaving for a wedding and the CrowdStrike issue made some things complicated so I did it on a stationary bike just to be safe. Bummer though! I’m not a confident cyclist, and just before this started I had my a bad bike wreck when I got hit by something that flew off a lawn mower and I was not sure if I was going to ever ride again. This event helped me get back on the bike, so thank you! Kato Potato, signing off” with 101.05 miles. We’re so happy you got back on the bike and can’t wait for you to join us next year – MT.

Duchess Potato DID IT! Following surgery, we knew it was going to be a rough one, and sometimes one-handed but the Duchess remains perfect with 100.7 miles and magnet number 14.

Bar Fry was just over the line and also had company helping her along. With 100.39 miles Bar Fry always has a great ride with Mann, I feel like a Potato! Mann, I feel like a potato tells us it was a “Great outdoor ride with good Bar Fry friend as she pedals toward the finish line!”

4 Pedal Days Remain

I took the day off yesterday because we didn’t have any potatoes that became official BUT boy, did we make up for it today. Let’s add another eight taters to the “official” list.

Seafaring Spud with 113.76 miles and Wolfpack Potato with 102.5 miles both made it official today and sent a great update. Seafaring Spud submitted on behalf of both: Early start this morning with Wolfpack Potato at 0530 for a 23 miler back on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. Met our goal of finishing before we hit the forecasted 96F today! Happily represented the Home Team with our Authentic Le Tour de Couch Potato biking jerseys and could not help but notice the admiring glances from passersby as we cycled past them. As usual, we saw lots of wild life including deer families, beautiful red cardinals & other birds, bunnies and chipmunks. Also, some historical artifacts such as an old train from when this trail was an active rail line (1859-1968). This wraps up our tour this year and we greatly enjoyed the camaraderie with our fellow Couch Potatoes. Special thanks to Madam Tuber and the Team for the superb organization and witty inspirational banter. You kept us pedaling. Ride On and stay hydrated my friends!

Hash Slinger is checking the century off the list with 108.56 miles. While MelaTater is also done with 105.6 miles, Artful Tuber will add another magnet to the fridge this year, coming in with 103.72 miles.

Kartoffel Kaiser is over the finish line at 102.4 miles and her update: As hot as it’s been, there’s no way I would’ve gotten my rear off the couch had it not for this lovely event that I stumbled upon 9 years ago. Thank you so much Madam Tuber and Duchess Potato for making this happen each year!

Campbell’s Potato Soup (101.25 miles) and Haus of Spuds (100.2 miles) round out today’s group of official spuds. Excellent work all of you getting over the finish line with time to spare!

Let’s revisit our “30 to go” group where we find 33 tots hanging out, just waiting to earn their magnets. In this group we find Fry Fry Baby, Darth Tater, Kim Jong Spud, Duchess Potato, Simmering Spud, Tuber Effect, Kato Potato, Salt Life Yam, Tottering Tater, Grape Tater, Russet Ranger, A-Peeling Esther, Commissioner Potato, Disorderly Tater, Pump up the Yam, Spuddles, Last of the Potatoes, Mohs Potatoes, Flower Power Potato, CFNo Spud, Hurray for Potatoes, Space Yam, Racing Spud, Harley Taterson, Potato Lane, Spuddy Holly, Gator Bait Tater, Star-Spudded, Manntater, How to Train Your Tater, Tuberski, Sour Mash Spud, and Baked Potato.

Potato Happenings

Salt Life Yam is up there in our “30 to go” group and reports in with a “Yikes! Running out of time!”. I also see Duchess Potato who’s trying to remain a perfect 14 for 14 years – hope she makes it.

Bar Fry is checking in with us today with a “Great ride with good friends!” at over half way – 57.69 miles.

Our other Potato Happenings are from those already official and WOW, the mileage they have seen. Backpack Potato (248.0 miles) Up at 6am to beat the heat advisory – STILL used all my water. CycoTater (251.0 miles) Another great ride in the Merry Point Ferry area with no indecisive squirrel activity. Oh-Kay-Tuber (164.0 miles) Nice ride this AM with Spud Lass (140.5 miles) and Bar Fry (see above). Decapotato (614.47 miles and my Spanish lessons) Con lluvia y amigos sumando Millas (With ____ and friends adding miles – I haven’t learned lluvia yet.). Captain Spud (157.9 miles) Triathlon Taper.

Administrivia

All of the miles above bring us to our total of 18993.5 miles pedaled toward that 30,000 mile goal (only 11006.5 to go). I’m thinking that goal is going to have to wait until next year. On a brighter note, we have 161 potatoes pedaling and 41 potatoes still practicing to be DUD Spuds.

Please remember to check your miles as we get close to the end of Le Tour! We finish riding at 11:59 PM on 7/21/25 and all miles have to be entered by 11:59 PM on 7/22/25. If miles are wrong after that, that’s on you.
