Day 14:Two Weeks In

Day 14 and a lot of taters are battling the smoke on their rides. Be safe and best wishes to those fighting the fires! We’re two weeks down and just over one to go. Are you 2/3 finished? We now have 55 official taters after adding today’s 5. We have over 14,200 miles pedaled. 153 potatoes are off the couch and we have 62 DUD SPUDS – remember, you will become a DUD if you don’t finish at least 100 miles.

Those earning medals today include: Chip-n-Dale pedaled 108.1 miles for a magnet. Even Stephen Spud is at 107.6 miles. Irish Spud has another magnet with 104.7 miles. Got Tot? finished up with 101.5 miles and our fifth potato today is Frappin’ Spud with 101.3 miles. Be sure to check out the Hall of Fame to see how many magnets our potatoes have earned: Hall of Fame

Pedaling by the numbers today is going back to those in the 90s and likely to finish over the weekend. Spudding Genius is a half mile away at 99.5 miles. Starch Trek will finish with one more ride at 98.1 miles. New Potato is about to get another magnet – 97.2 miles. Tuberville is almost done as well with a great story to show for it (below) – 95.9 miles. I’m (Madam Tuber) hanging out at 93.5 miles and will go finish as soon as this is posted. Chili Cheese Fries is only 8 miles away at 92.0 miles. Rounding out this group is Tom Tater with 90.5 miles. Look for these potatoes to grab that magnet soon.

Here’s what y’all had to say about your rides:

Tuberville-On Tuesday, we rolled out just about the dinner hour (6PM) and with You Be Yameen as the ride leader, and holy smash fries! was he ready to cook. Apparently he had already preheated the oven. Within the first 4 miles he put us straight into the deep fryer with intervals that left my legs feeling baked. Unbeknownst to me, the roasting was not over, much to my tuber’s chagrin. I had just settled into an steady bake, when YoubeAmeen called for rotating 50 second pulls. Once again, we were dropped directly into the hot oil. We rotated like tater tots on a baking sheet. By the time we rolled back in 33.4 miles later, this Tuberville was completely mashed. Big thanks to You Be Yameen for a smash hit of a workout.

Frappin Spud-Last day here at Chief Lake, Hayward WI ending on a good not with getting my potato miles. Whoo hoo!

Potato Chip Rock-Really smoky here in Maryland so rode 30 miles on the Peloton in the less smoky and cooler basement.

Chip-n-Dale-Gateway to Arches Tempo Ride.

Harley Taterson-The Eastern Shore of Maryland is covered in hazy smoke from Canada. I flipped into the indoor cycling studio in Easton to punch out 14 Miles! It’s not healthy to be outside doing cardio workouts!

Irish Spud-A steamy, smoky 30 miles in the Northern Neck of Va this morning. Magnet #12 in the bag!

Ok Kay Tuber-Another beautiful Kiawah morning

Fry Like an Eagle-Got to see some porpoises at the beach!

We have 7 potatoes with less than 10 miles to ride for their magnet. Pump Up the Yam reports in at 97.3 miles. Last of the Potatoes is NOT last with 95.5 miles. Pump Up the Yam-I had hoped that Green Eggs & Yam, Buck-a-Spud and Potato on LeVine would pull me across the 100 mile line on our ride this morning. Alas, rain shortened it. But very close…

Tuber or Not Tuber-Merci beaucoup, Madam Tuber, for creating and managing a fun and healthy idea. And a special thank you to Potato Chip Rock and his spouse Penny sans-potatomanteau who told us of your group.

Chip-n-Dale-Sunrise Execution Ride this morning. Up to 14% incline! A bit much first thing in the morning!

Phrier Di-Stage 2 of Le Tour was a hilly stage. I had a mechanical issue, but fortunately Phrier Phil is exceptionally talented with tire changes. We were very happy not to smell smoke today!

Frying Nun-Went to spin class, thanks to the spin instructor, Betty Crocker Rhodes, for leading us through the class!

Kathryn-the- great Tator-Benched for two days by road grading and rain, but we are back at it today with a little Longer ride. The humidity is up so the biting black flies are active but we persevered.

Phrier Phil-We finally had clear skys in Western Colorado today and we had a great ride. We started early and finished before the heat. Phrier Di has some comments abouit the ride as well.

Raul-tato-The road to Yellowstone out of Livingston, Montana, features amazing sights, and after the ride we of course enjoyed a meal featuring French fries 🍟!
