Only 7 Pedal Days Remain

And 7 more potatoes made it official today. We have 81 over the finish line and creeping in on that 100 mark.

Potato Jam crushed that century mark with 112.00 miles which Chili Cheese Fries is just behind her with 111.30 miles. Tater Malla is done with 108.30 miles. How to Train Your Tater and PoKaeTo finished close to each other with 105.98 and 105.30 miles respectively. Tubular Tater has a new magnet with 103.80 miles. Having a great ride (sans the humidity) to get over the line for another magnet is Surfin’ Spud with 100.88 miles. Congratulations to our most recent official taters as we close out this weekend.

Potato Happenings

The weather channel told CycoTater there was an hour before the ran – lies, all lies. She reports a great ride, despite the rain.

Cajun Gator Tater was visiting Panama City Beach with the Tater Tots and new Potato and La Nuova Patata – the later took the Tots to the pool while he got out for his ride.

Mythical Patata was out with Spud Cool as she strives for 400 miles this tour. Spud Cool was the only thing Cool about the ride.

Captain Spud had a Sunday Funday for his longest ride of the year – 36.3 miles. Also reaching a personal best was Potato Chip Rock at 41 miles – he’s looking forward to “hugging” his standing desk tomorrow.

Billy Spud is back to his basement for his daily rides – that’s where I do mine too. Potato Chip ‘n Putt (aka my husband) just set up a fan for me.

As promised, let’s look at those looking for magnets 9, 8, and 7. Starting with those pedaling the most years.

Magnet number 9 has been earned by Tri Potato (280.30 miles), Tubin’ Tuber ( 160.10 miles), Irish Spud (138.80 miles), Mystery Spud (112.30 miles), Spud Luda (110.37 miles), and Spud Funk (104.10 miles). Still pedaling for that 9th magnet are Cajun Gator Tater (83.19 miles), Hot Potato (86.00 miles), Potato Loco (69.00 miles), Potato Cake (62.14 miles), and Sweet Kinder Spud (30.60 miles).

Thirteen potatoes started out this year’s tour looking for their 8th magnet. Uetz Chips (281.00 miles), Loch Ness Potato (188.21 miles), Almighty Spud (138.00 miles), Fo’Fanna Potato (110.00 miles), Loly Pop Potato (108.50 miles), and Salt Life Yam (100.70 miles) already have theirs. In the hunt are Artful Tuber (86.71 miles), Kartoffel Kaiser (83.80 miles), Grape Tater (65.50 miles), Tuberski (63.20 miles), Bud Spud (49.74 miles), Tater Vega (42.00 miles), and Zappa Patata (20.20 miles).

Six potatoes are pedaling for magnet number 7 and four of them already earned it. Mythical Patata (350.01 miles), Backpack Potato (217.00 miles), Drunk Spud (138.00 miles) and Last of the Potatoes (113.31 miles) are all over the finish line. Rain or Shine Tater (64.30 miles) and Pedaler Mc Potato (15.80 miles) are pedaling to get to the century mark for theirs.

WHEW – I hope I didn’t miss anyone. If so, it was unintentional.

Administrivia

With all of this pedaling, our potatoes have totaled 17,677.90 miles. Only 12,322.10 miles left to meet that “extra challenge” I threw out there. With only 7 pedaling days remaining, it’s not looking good.

It’s the Start of the Second Weekend

And we’re adding six more official potatoes to our ranks. Starch Trek has 143.00 miles completed while Tombet Tater is done with 125.15 miles. Also over the line is Fry Me to the Moon with 103.51 miles and Nip it in the Spud with 102.28 miles. Crossing the finish line at almost exactly the same mileage are Susan Spudkin with 100.24 miles and Fo’Fanna Potato with 100 miles exactly.

Congratulations to our newest finishers who help to bring our total finishers to 74 with 8 pedal days remaining. We do have 159 spuds off the couch with only 19 still resting. Those would be our DUD SPUDS in training.

Potato Happenings

Today we’ll shout out of potatoes who have done 9 or more Couch Potatoes and are closing in on their next one – or maybe finished their next one already. This is our 13th year and only three people have finished every one so far. Duchess Potato has finished this year as well while Bubba Spud (55.00 miles) and yours truly (62.30 miles) are still on the road.

The only one who can earn magnet 12 this year is Home Fries (22.00 miles) who we cheered for yesterday.

There are several potatoes looking for magnet number 11 at the end of this year’s tour. Potato Prez (119.86 miles) and Tottering Tater (104.50 miles) already have theirs. Still in the hunt are New Potato (87.60 miles), Rocky Potato (84.60 miles), and Potato Jam (64.00 miles).

Interestingly, all lady potatoes looking for magnet number 10. La Nuova Patata (89.10 miles), Gator Bait Tater (71.04 miles), 50 in 50 Potato (61.16 miles), and Potato Sticks (61.10 miles) get that 10th in just a few miles.

Tomorrow we’ll check out those looking for (or already earned) magnet number 7, 8, or 9.

Administrivia

With all of this pedaling, our potatoes have totaled 16,114.61 miles. Only 13,885.39 miles left to meet that “extra challenge” I threw out there. With only 8 pedaling days remaining, it will be a tough one to finish.

We’re Two Weeks In

With about one week remaining, we’re up to 68 official potatoes including another 5 joined the ranks today.

Imi-tater is done with 114.00 miles. Captain Spud has his first hundred in with 109.60 miles and is working on his second. Laura Latkes has a new magnet with 108.00 miles while Tottering Tater has magnet number 11 (if my count is correct) with 104.50 miles. Mystery Spud is also over the finish line with 101.10 miles. Congrats to our latest finishers. I know more will be wrapping it up with the weekend coming. Maybe we’ll have over 100 official by Sunday’s report out???

We all need a shout out to Home Fries. She has done every Couch Potato but the first one. She’s only at 22 miles so let’s send her some positive vibes to get the rest of those miles to get to magnet number 12. Tomorrow we’ll check on those who have 10 magnets and are working on number 11.

157 potatoes are now off the couch with 23 still napping. Warning to one of those 23 – you work with me and it could be a LONG year – LOL.

Potato Happenings

Fry Alicia is out pedaling with Covid – decided to take it to the streets, instead of infecting the basement/peloton, since her symptoms are minor. Here’s hoping she’s better soon.

Tri Potato is back out on the Capital Train after a long work week. She’s creeping in on 300 miles.

Chip-N-Dale continues his world tour – today was Blackhead Lighthouse to Finavarra Martello. While CycoTater rode the Tour de Merry Point since it was “almost cool outside” after the last several days.

Bud Spud and MicroChip were out in Charlottesville on the Rivanna River Trail getting in some miles.

Loch Ness Potato continues to add miles to her tour AND beat the rain today.

Potato Chip Rock send the grand kids home after their visit – but managed to get a ride in after the airport run.

In other news – For those tracking, we now have reports of an 83 year old potato who is over the finish line. I never tell someone’s age but when others fess up, I’m happy to share!

Administrivia

With all of this pedaling, our potatoes have totaled 15,444.71 miles. Only 14,555.29 miles left to meet that “extra challenge” I threw out there. We’re over half way but only 9 days left to ride – can we do it?

Also – potato names have been all accounted for – whew!

10 Pedal Days Remain

Day 13 is in the books – almost two weeks done. If you aren’t over half way, we are!! Get to pedaling. There are 5 additional potatoes who are calling it “official” tonight and looking for a new magnet.

Fry Alicia crossed the threshold with 127.81 miles while Tater Excellency got in a total of 115.48 miles to earn a new magnet. Star-Spudded reached 100 miles today with a total of 108.49 miles. Got Tot? is in at 108.33 miles and Yogatato is over the line with 102.00 miles.

That brings our total to 63 potatoes that are finished and official. Our Swishers – Swisher Sweet Potato and Dicktater are leading the pack with 317.00 and 298.29 miles respectively. There are 156 taters on the road so one more got off the couch today. That leaves us with 25 DUD SPUDS who took the time to sign up but haven’t pedaled at all yet.

Potato Happenings

Duchess Potato was out for the famous (and annual) “Mathews Post Office” ride while Yam Kronen was out celebrating with another Biker Chick who became an official Potato on their weekly ride today.

Senator Spud was out burning those pizza calories and Mythical Patata did her first indoor ride of the tour – the heat finally got the best of her.

Potato Chip Rock has been playing chauffeur for the last couple of days and got a chance to get out again today.

I’m on my way downstairs to hop on my bike for some indoor miles – gotta get closer with the days counting down.

We did get some feedback on the age question from yesterday. We have reports of a 72 year old riding – he’s been with us for several years – and a 78 year old riding her first tour. Our oldest finisher I remember, off the top of my head, is 81 – but I’ll research to confirm. That was my mom so she pops into my head the quickest. I think our youngest was 8 or 9 – again, I’ll do my research! Regardless – y’all rock getting out there to pedal. I know some of our DUD SPUDS in training are envious.

With all of this pedaling, our potatoes have totaled 14,736.46 miles. Only 15,260.54 miles left to meet that “extra challenge” I threw out there.

A Dozen Done

Another hot, humid, sticky day to be out pedaling but our potatoes are troopers. We have 9 more who finished up today, only 12 days in. That brings our total to 61 official taters with 155 on the road. Our DUD SPUDS in training total 26. Times a wastin’.

Shout out to our newest taters to finish:

Spudly went for an early morning ride with Tot Louie and earned magnet #6 with 114.60 miles. Billy Spud also hit the 100 mile mark today at 114.00 miles – Woot!, he says. MelaTater checks in with 109.50 miles and I Yam California Dreamin’ is right on her heels with 109.04 miles. Finishing together are Golly D Tater and Mot Tot, both with 104.60 miles. Bar Fry had a “Great experience” finishing her Couch Potato with 101.57 miles. Haus of Spuds is in just a mile over with 101.00 miles and right behind is Christmas Potato at 100.80 miles.

Congratulations goes out to our most recent official taters. Magnets all around.

Potato Happenings

Chip-N-Dale is pedaling around Ireland and the Kilkee Cliffs while Rain or Shine Tater is also spinning – but while teaching class, the second of the week with 12 students. Need potato miles? Go see him!

Captain Spud wants to know who our oldest tater is – he’s 69. Anyone want to fess up? I know but haven’t told.

Administrivia

With all of this pedaling, our potatoes have totaled 13,723.42 miles. Only 16,276.58 miles left to meet that “extra challenge” I threw out there.

Arrrgggg – I lost two potato names somewhere. I know I had them in there. Fear not, I shall get them entered again!

Seven on Eleven

That’s right – seven more official potatoes on day eleven of our ride. We’re over 12,000 miles and just stomping on those pedals. 46 potatoes now have magnets while a total of 155 are off the couch. Now let’s celebrate those who crossed the finish line today.

Yam Kronen is finished with her century with 111.95 miles. Loly Pop Potato reports in as “happy” to be done with 108.50 miles. Senator Spud is back from Cub Scouts adventure camp to pedal his way to a magnet with 107.60 miles. Ain’t No Tater High Enough has high enough miles for a magnet with 105.81 miles. Potato Prez has magnet #11 with 101.56 miles. Salt Life Yam is just over 100 miles with 100.70.

But wait – that’s only six spuds. Our seventh is Duchess Potato – finished with 109.02 miles – we call her out special because she has finished EVERY Le Tour de Couch Potato.

Congratulations to ALL of our potatoes finishing up today – keep pedaling toward that 30,000 mile total.

Potato Happenings

We’ll shake things up a little today and call out our spuds that are hanging out in the 90 mile range. These nine potatoes are less than 10 miles from the finish line so look for them to finish up in the next couple of days.

I wonder if Imi-tater and Billy Spud know they are at 99 miles – only one to go. Winning Spud and Spudly are both less than 6 miles from the finish line with 94.60 and 94.10 miles respectively. MelaTater is just behind them at 93.50 miles. And our group of potatoes, right close together are Mot Tot (91.6 miles), Tubular Tater (91.1 miles), Laura Latkes (91.0 miles) and Golly D Tater (90.8 miles). Good luck to all of you – we’re watch you become official later this week.

Day 10 and Still Pedaling

An early update today as I need to get miles in tonight after dinner – finally! The potatoes keep pedaling and the miles keep adding up. We’re up to 36 “official” potatoes now with an additional 5 crossing the 100 mile threshold today.

Let’s all congratulate Seafaring Spud for finishing with 117.00 miles. At 115.90 miles, Buck-A-Spud has a new magnet. Wolfpack Potato is over the line with 109.85 miles. Casey at the Bat Potato is also done with 103.56 miles and just behind her is Jan Jan Jan Spud at 103.30 miles.

Keep pedaling taters – we have a lot that are creeping up to that century mark.153 of our taters are off the couch with 28 still sitting on the sofa (what are you waiting for?)

Potato Happenings

Bar Fry got a little protein while stomping on the pedals – in the form of a bug.

Yam Kronen reports in as “so close…” with under 6 miles to ride – the sick pup kept her from finishing but the finish line is close.

Haus of Spuds and MelaTater did a tour of Jamestown Island where MelaTater ran over a squirrel. Whew! Both the squirrel and Mela were relatively unscathed – no mashed potatoes. Onward to the Capital Trail where they raced 2 spotted fawns through the fields!

Fry Like an Eagle was out for a morning ride. Potato Chip Rock had the grandkids arrive today so he had to wait for his ride until they went down for a nap.

Chip-N-Dale tells of a Leacanabuaile to Mountain Stage Tempo Ride today and is worn out. CycoTater rode Waddy’s Loop and it’s environs while The Beast was being inspected (her coolest ride to date).

Happy Pedaling,

WOW – what a weekend!

Madam Tuber is away and the potatoes will play. Y’all were tearing up the streets this weekend. Ten more potatoes made it official today, bringing us to a total of 31 who have their magnets. We also crossed over the 10,000 miles pedaled mark today. Pedal, taters, pedal. Making it “official” today are:

Irish Spud was out with Loch Ness Potato for a “hot, sticky 97% humidity ride to finish with 114.10 miles. Uetz Chips had Dre Tater (who is over 1/2 way) with him as he earned his magnet with 112.10 miles – there could have been some breakfast incentive as well. Spudarama earned what I believe is a first magnet with 109.40 miles. Tom Tater was out pedaling with Casey at the Bat Potato as they headed for the Baked Shop again to finish up his miles with 103.56 miles – she is also almost done (less than 10 to go). Also over the finish line is Commen-Tater with 101.70 miles. Oh-Kay-Tuber started her day with a “Woo hoo” and a new magnet at 101.20 miles. Getting in his last miles before a thunderstorm is Tuber Effect, checking in with 101.18 miles. Spudding Genius earned a magnet today with 101.00 miles as did Swan Song Spud with 100.75 miles. Bandit Yam checks in with 100.70 miles and the earliest he’s earned his magnet. Congratulations to this big group of spuds earning magnets today!

So much fun to see all these potatoes pedaling together. And all that pedaling with it being hot, stormy and way less than ideal conditions. Let’s check out those potato happenings and make sure we didn’t have any mashed potatoes!

Potato Happenings

Po-Kae-To had a great day riding with other Couch Potatoes, including Chilli Cheese Fries that also reported in, on the Capital Trail near Jamestown! Beautiful scenery, lots of folks around biking, running, walking & my biking partner & I chatted the whole 25 miles! Afterwards, we visited Billsburg Brewery & had lunch! So much fun! I hear there’s a picture coming to FB so we can see the whole group.

Kartoffel Kaiser did not even see the squirrel run out from under a shaded tree until it was milliseconds from having its tail amputated by her front tire. Whew! So glad to not have to special order the tiny instruments. (Seinfeld fans 😄)

Potato Jam was pedaling while trying to beat the storms coming in from the West.

Touring Potato reports in as not starting with a big bang, bad legs…but there is always tomorrow. No DUD SPUD here!

MelaTater was out on a Gwynn’s Island ride with friends ending with beers at Hole In The Wall. Good times!

Mythical Patata rode with Potato Prez and Tater Excellency for some soggy (humid) miles but they were reported as “fun” and followed by beer!!

Potato Chip Rock survived two hours on the spin bike. It included a scenic ride along the coast of Norway (and surely a sore bum). Lots of fishing villages. That calls for fish tacos for dinner.

Tubular Tater summed it up for all of us “Ouch it’s hot”

Kickin’ Off Week 2 with a Bang

And five more official potatoes. This is going to be a quick update (due to the out of town thing) but we can’t be remiss of our latest official potatoes.

Fat Tire Tater is over the line with 133.80 miles. Backpack Potato has another magnet with 128.00 miles. Fry Like an Eagle is done with 126.90 miles. Marshmallow Fluff Potato is finished with 101.10 miles. And Countess Tater is over the finish line with 101.00 miles. Congratulations to you all.

Potato Happenings

I know there was a lot going on today but we’ll catch up on all our potato happenings tomorrow.

One Down, Two to Go

Weeks that is – yep, we’ve got a week of this year’s tour in the books and we can count 17 of our potatoes as official. Four more made it over the threshold today. Green Eggs & Yam did not make it easy on himself to get those 129.78 miles. He had a mechanical failure today with a flat tire and air then the front brake died. Despite it all, he finished my ride and earned a magnet! Spud Cool chalked up a total of 111.40 miles for a magnet while Chip-N-Dale and his 105.41 miles is still trying to figure out what CycoTater got him into. Loch Ness reports “a beautiful ride to Windmill Point this morning turned me into an official Potato!!” with 100.27 miles.

With the weekend starting tomorrow, I know that number is going to jump significantly. LOTS of our potatoes are really close. And a lot of them also had happenings today.

Potato Happenings

Po-Kae-To rode the bike for the first time ever to the Y for a class and then back home. Liked it so much it looks like it’s going to happen again tomorrow. As she was on her way to the Y, Rain or Shine Tater was logging the miles in yet another very hot spin class! Yogatato was also spinning away but under a ceiling fan, in the AC (great way to beat the heat).

New Potato celebrated hitting 50 miles in LTdCP today with lunch at Buddy Lou’s right on the trail.

Irish Spud had an adventurous ride with not one but two flat tires (and a turtle) – did the turtle help with the flat tires? Yam Kronen’s bunny didn’t fare as well as the turtle – it was dinner for a couple dogs who decided to give chase in order to protect their kill. Also along for the ride were a deer and a crane – lots-o-wildlife.

Jan Jan Jan Spud, in the true spirit of a potato, headed out for a 20 mile ride. As she headed down to the Piankatank River, she found some good head space and was really feeling it. On the way back home, I realized I wasn’t ready to give it up. Had enough water and snacks to keep going and added another 10 miles to my ride and ended up at almost 30. Felt awesome and totally in the zone. Great ride.

Mythical Patata did not have any fun today. She ran into a bee, hit her lip and stung her – ouch!! Captain Spud is a tapering tater today as he gets ready for a tri on Sunday. Potato Chip Rock is finding it harder to ride on a work day than on a week end.

Spudly Sue rode 28 miles from Southern Shores to the Wright Brothers Memorial and back. Fun times with 8 friends and even saved a land turtle from being squished by a truck!

Tubular Tater listened to Mike Oldfield’s “TUBULAR Bells” for the ride in honor of his tater name. He had a blast and is headed to storage to get out his Telecaster. In his words “God help my family…”

As for my miles, we’re out of town and I’m stressing about not getting my miles in. When I said something to my husband he said “too bad you can’t count the miles on your broom.” Hahaha – he has to sleep sometime.

With all of this pedaling, our potatoes have totaled 7656.31 miles. Only 22,343.69 miles left to meet that “extra challenge” I threw out there.
