Registration Report: June 7

So far 61 potatoes have signed up for Le Tour

Just a friendly reminder, registration for Le Tour de Couch Potato 2023 is OPEN and so far, an impressive number of you have returned to the event. Registration will stay open for the rest of June and pedaling will begin July 1, coinciding with the Tour de France.

Where do I sign up? How do I confirm I’m in?

On the Home Page of LTdCP, you’ll find the registration link & also the button to view current list of participants. Tell your friends – joining Le Tour de Couch Potato is free – you provide your own bicycle (or borrow from a friend) and pedal 100 miles between July 1-23. Enjoy & Vive Le Tour!

2023 Registration is now open

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, cycling enthusiasts, and serial rubberneckers, gather ’round! It’s that time of year again, when we all get ready to hop on our trusty two-wheeled steeds and embark on the greatest cycling adventure of the year. No, we’re not talking about the actual Tour de France. Please, that’s for over-caffeinated, spandex-clad professionals with more time than sense. We’re talking about our very own, infinitely superior, and unquestionably more enjoyable alternative: Le Tour de Couch Potato.

What can you expect from our cycling adventure? Well, for starters, we’re replacing grueling hill climbs with leisurely jaunts to local breweries. Instead of breakneck sprints, we’ll be pausing for photo ops with local livestock.

As the so-called “pros” continue their valiant quest for victory, we’ll be busy enjoying the best of what the Couch Potato has to offer, all from the comfort of our well-worn saddles. And let’s not forget the most important part: our fellow riders, who understand that life is too short to take anything too seriously—especially a bike ride.

Dust off your helmets, pump up your tires, and join us for a cycling adventure unlike any other. Register now, fellow cycling potatoes, and we’ll see you at the starting line!

Less than Two Months to Go

Greetings, fellow cycling enthusiasts and couch potatoes alike! The countdown has begun, and in less than two months (July 1st, to be exact), we’ll be embarking on the 12th edition of Le Tour de Couch Potato. Gather your family, friends, and your neighbors because this cycling experience is perfect for riders of all ages and abilities.

We’re here to ride 100 miles in 23 days. Our event is for those who’d rather pedal to the nearest ice cream stand than tackle a daunting mountain pass. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just someone who knows how to pedal, come join us for some leisurely riding, with potatoes who prefer to take life one pedal stroke at a time.

Registration will open on June 1st and we can’t wait to get everyone signed up. Get ready, Couch Potatoes, for a ride to remember. We’ll see you there!

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber

2023 Le Tour de Couch Potato is 81 days away

It’s that time again – everyone dust off the bikes and get ready to pedal! 2023’s Tour is about to kick off. We’re under three months until the Grand Depart of the 2023 Le Tour de Couch Potato.

2023 Items to remember:
  • Ride dates: July 1st – July 23rd
  • Registration will open Thursday morning, June 1st and close at 12:01 AM, July 1st – as the ride begins.
  • Registration and mile tracking will all be done through the website – and is based on your email address. Be sure when it comes time to register, you remember the email address you register with…if it’s different than what you use to track mileage, you won’t get credit.
  • The “Rules” should be reviewed and followed. Remember, if you want to make your own rules, make your own ride.

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber, Duchess Potato and Bubba Spud

Le Tour de Couch Potato is in the Rear View

Hard to believe but alas, it is true

Le Tour de Couch Potato is in the rear view

Potatoes were pedaling, away they did fly

176 told the century mark goodbye

Heat and humidity were there along the way

But neither could stop us from coming to play

We watched the battle between Decap and Swisher Sweet

Over 800 miles each did complete

They’re two of many out playing our game

To see more potatoes, check our hall of fame

I also hear tale of a potato who got mashed

Fortunately, he still finished with a splash

There are 91 potatoes who now go by DUD SPUD

Signed up but didn’t finish, maybe next time, Bud

We hope you’ll join us for Le Tour next year

It’s number 13, but never fear

It will be lucky for all who join us to ride

Just remember the rules by which we abide

That’s all for this time, thanks so much for playin’

We had a lot of fun; hope you did – we’re prayin’

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber

Closing Out Year 12

As we close out our 12th year and with only a few hours left to pedal, we’re celebrating 12 potatoes who made it official. Remember, you can pedal up to midnight (Eastern Time) tonight if you aren’t done yet. Log all your miles before midnight tomorrow!

Tot Tilla is over the line with 110 miles and a new magnet.

Kartoffel Kaiser is not only getting a new magnet but I’m going to have to work on a new name. She got 105.8 miles, ate a bug and had a bug fly in her ear. It is noted that Helmer Spud finished first but Kartoffel Kaiser finished with more miles.

Eveready Yam is always ready for Le Tour and finished again this year, this time with 104.7 miles so another magnet for him. Yom Yam is not far behind with 104.3 miles to show for her pedaling efforts.

Tater Mountain reports in with another Le Tour de Couch Potato completed and 102.6 miles. With the same number of miles and another magnet is Hot Potato checking in also with 102.6 miles. Only a tenth back is Potayto Potahto is over the century mark with 102.5 miles.

Happy to report after much traveling, Bubba Spud has earned magnet number 12, keeping up the tradition with her two aunts. She’s logged 102 miles.

Tuberski finished up today with 100.7 miles and another magnet – still pedaling with the kids?

Making sure I don’t make fun of them at work are Yamaican (100.6 miles), Pro-Craft-in-Tater (100.5 miles – work by association) and New Spudsation (100 miles).

Congratulations to our newest potatoes. Any others who finish before midnight tonight will get a shout out in the final report on Wednesday, July 27.

As of now, 43 potatoes started but haven’t finished yet, some with less than 10 miles to go. We’re over 28,300 miles pedaled.

I’m also looking at these 57 potatoes on the couch. Definitely some DUD SPUDs in training. We’ll see how many of the remaining 43 who started are going to join them.

Potato Happenings:

Stormin’ Spud rode the first day of RAGBRAI today and the Couch Potato helped with training.

And Then There Was One

One Day To Pedal, That Is – yep, we have one day to pedal, potatoes. Remember, pedaling ends tomorrow at midnight. All miles MUST be entered by midnight on July 25th.

Spud Drowsy leads our pack of potatoes over the finish line today with 128.1 miles.

Erin Loves Spuds made her final ride over the finish line a fun one, despite the flat tire and wraps up with 105.4 miles and a thank you to her biking bud, Later Tater.

The most fun part of Helmer Spud’s 102.9 miles was beating Kartoffel Kaiser to the finish line – we know she’ll get there though and is there a name change in the works?

Robert Bakes Potatoes and Pig-Pen Potato have finished with exactly the same mileage. They both check in with 101.97 miles, exactly.

Spuddy Holly is over the line for another magnets, hit the century mark with 100 miles, bringing our total number of potatoes over the line to 156.

We have pedaled over 27,400 miles and have 55 potatoes who have started but are still not over the line. Hopefully most of them will make it tomorrow. Several of those are within 20 miles of the finish line and a couple of those work with me – you don’t want to hear about it for the rest of the year, do you?

I’m also looking at these 57 potatoes on the couch. Definitely some DUD SPUDs in training. We’ll see how many of the remaining 55 who started are going to join them.

Potato Happenings:

Tri Potato got some additional miles today riding back and forth from the lemonade stand. Her potatoes in training (one hers, the other a friend) set up a stand along the VA Cap Trail.

Salt Life Yam was cut off by a car (be careful potatoes), unfortunately, it was a police car. Fry Alicia was also cut off – only by a deer. It happened while she was climbing, so again, crisis averted. Everyone is reporting in OK and no mashed potatoes.

Bramboregg had the rain wash away the oil from his chain. He just bought some anchovies at the supermarket and used the oil to lube the chain and keep going.

If you see Potato Chip Rock, wish him a Happy Anniversary – he rode a mile for each of the 34 years today. Congratulations on the anniversary and the ride.

Harley Taterson is closing in on Paris (97.2 miles so are) and his yellow jersey arrives Monday. He’s ready to show it off.

And 2 Days Remain

With 2 days remaining the battle for most miles pedaled is heating up. Decapitato logged 51 miles – he does NOT want to be out ridden this year. Come on Swisher Sweet, make him earn it!! As for those over the line today, we may have a new record with 17 potatoes becoming official today. Our total potatoes are now at 150 and our miles are over 26,400. Pedal potatoes, pedal.

Finishing it up at the top of our list today is Fitz and the Tater Tantrums with 141.5 miles. Uetz Chips is also over the century mark at 114.4 miles. Few Potato isn’t far behind with 112.5 miles.

Spuds McKenzie and Papa Spud are in a dead heat with 107.7 miles. Space Yam is done and has a new magnet after pedaling 105.2 miles. Loaded Potato is only two tenths back with 105 miles, crossing with Meadow Lark Potato, also with 105 miles. Spuddux is done after 104.1 miles.

Billy Spud has 102.4 miles for his magnet while Grape Tater pedaled 102 miles for his. Bean Counting Potato is also at 102 miles. Only a tenth back is Mama Spud with another magnet and 101.9 miles. Pedaler McPotato also pedaled 101.9 miles to earn a magnet.

Closing out our day are Spudasaurus with 101.1 miles, DrewTuber with 100.9 miles, and Sweet Spud with 100.8 miles. Congratulations to all of our newest magnet earners!!

We still have 57 potatoes on the couch – DUD SPUDs in training?

Potato Happenings:

I didn’t get everyone’s comments today as I’m out of town but we’re really racking up the miles. Taters rocking it out! Only two days left so pedal on, potatoes.

Good luck if you aren’t finished. Take your remaining miles, divide by 2, and pedal away. Remember to log any miles you have pedaled so far so our tracking is accurate. Check below for specifics on when pedaling/tracking are to be complete.

25,000 Miles Pedaled

With only 3 days to pedal, we have surpassed 25K miles. We also have 8 new taters checking in today bringing our total official potatoes to 134.

Today we celebrate with Salt Life Yam and her 107 miles. Verdant Potato is also over the line with 105.5 miles. Cajun Gator Tater has another magnet with 103.3 miles – this tour followed hip surgery but HAD to get that magnet and keep the streak alive. Dolly Partato pedaled 101.2 miles for her magnet.

All in a bunch, these four potatoes finished within about a tenth of a mile of each other: Spud Ice with 100.7 miles, Incognito Potato also with 100.7 miles, Spudly Beach Bum also has 100.7 miles and Microchip has 100.6 miles and a big WHEW as she finished.

Way to go stomping on those pedals to earn a magnet.

Seventy seven potatoes are still looking for the finish line and will be crossing soon. We still have 57 potatoes on the couch – DUD SPUD here they come.

Potato Happenings:

Tuberski is finishing up while touring colleges – does she know she has .8 miles to go – SOOOO close.

Tombet Tuber is pedaling to the Tour in France – I haven’t seen it yet today but hoping you had as much fun as they did.

Potato Prez pedaled to Assateague National Park to see the ponies. Scenic tour – or is that Scenic le Tour??

Good luck if you aren’t finished. Take your remaining miles, divide by 3, and pedal away. Remember to log any miles you have pedaled so far so our tracking is accurate. Check below for specifics on when pedaling/tracking are to be complete.
