Rain, rain, go away – we’re pedaling anyway!

Our second weekend is in the books and we have eight more potatoes who made it official today, bringing our total count to 35. Congratulations go out to Varri Spudly with 110.6 miles and a new magnet. CycoTater dodged the raindrops with CompuTater to finish her tour with 109.5 miles. Also finishing up today is Mystery Spud with 104.1 miles. Crossing the finish line together with 103.5 miles are Ain’t No Tater High Enough and Price is Right Potato. Fry Alicia has a new magnet with 102.1 miles, as does Potato Bytes with 101.5 miles. And our final finisher today, with I believe his 10th magnet, is Tottering Tater with 101.4 miles. Way to go taters!

We had a big second weekend and are up to almost 12,500 miles in total and they miles keep coming! 198 potatoes are off the couch now with 14 days left to pedal. I’m watching some of our possible DUD SPUDS – if you have a friend who is still on the couch, take them for a bike ride!

Potato Happenings:

It sounds like rain won the day on most of the east coast of the US again today. Duchess Potato had a second day inside due to the rain and I missed another opportunity as I was too busy enjoying some shenanigans (those who know me, know what I mean!). Waked Potato braved the rain for 40 miles with some friends – they were laughing in the rain instead of singing in the rain.

Surfin’ Spud and Spudly Beach Bum were out again today catching up on some miles. Grape Tater was out for his first outdoor ride since last years Tour de Couch Potato – unfortunately, it showed as he forgot his water bottle. Laura Latkes enjoyed the Tour de France and Men’s Wimbledon final while getting her miles.

Bud Spud is pedaling on her Peloton with her eyes on Jungle Spud – doesn’t want him to get ahead – he’s on the mountain bike and she’s at home keeping up. Potato Chip Rock did chores first then rode – with sore legs from the chores. The order will need to be switched next time. Loch Ness Potato was cursed with 2 flat tires today so it was a short ride.

It’s Raining Potatoes

Despite lots of rain reported, we have three potatoes who made it official today and we crossed the 10,000 mile mark.

Fry Like an Eagle got a jump start on the weekend and ended up with a new magnet and 108 miles. Backpack Potato is over the finish line for another magnet, checking in with 103.1 miles. Also finished this year is Laura Latkes with 100.2 miles. Congratulations to our newest official potatoes.

We’re now at a total of 23 official couch potatoes, 195 pedaling potatoes and 10795.3 miles. We’re averaging about 1200 miles a day. GO us!

Potato Happenings:

Harley Taterson was one of our potatoes who pedaled over hill and dale on the stationary bike due to the rain. Also force inside was Potato Chip Rock who was able to get in two rides in one day for 34 total miles. Bud Spud liked the impact the rain is having on the garden but not so much on the ability to pedal.

Not impacted by the rain was Surfin’ Spud. He was pedaling with Spudly Beach Bum and Super Chipski, making a stop for croissants and coffee. Also out and for her longest ride EVER was Tot Juliet and getting off the couch with a late start this year is Rocky Mountain Potato (we know he’ll finish though, he always does).

Duchess Potato was chased in by the rain and I thought I would catch her but no such luck. My pedaling just wasn’t enough and she’s still 15 miles ahead of me (I’ll keep trying).

Entering Week Two

Not only are we over 9700 miles but we are announcing seven new official couch potatoes today. Pictured yesterday, my lovely aunt and uncle – Hot German Potato Salad and Reclining Spud – finished up with 132 miles each. Loch Ness Potato is also over the line with 112.2 miles (magnet number 7 I think!). Tubin’ Tuber is also finished with 105.6 miles. Truckin’ Tuber and Last of the Potatoes are neck and neck over the finish line with 104.9 miles and 104.4 miles respectively. Bishop Tuber has also earned his magnet with 100.5 miles. Congratulations go out to all of our potatoes who made it official today.

I’ve got my potato eye on Tater Excellency – hanging out at 96.16 miles for a couple days now – is the magnet in sight over the weekend?

Potato Happenings:

Salt Life Yam wants to remind all potatoes that drivers are sometimes blind to cyclists. She was almost our first mashed potato thanks to a driver that didn’t stop at a stop sign – I understand expletives regarding sex acts were said (just sayin’). Please, everyone, be careful out there – no mashed potatoes please!

CycoTater can see her 3rd magnet close on the horizon as she completed the “Brown’s Store Loop” today.

Sewin’ Spuds enjoyed the NHL draft on his exercise bike – great way to get miles and watch the youngsters take the next step in their hockey career.

Fo Fanna Potato was also on an indoor bike – being grumpy about it – conference calls got in the way of her being on the street. Stupid work!

Microchip made a stop for crepes halfway through her ride (yum!) while Fry Like an Eagle is looking forward to the weekend (more miles maybe??).

Swisher Sweets Potato stopped to help a turtle cross the road, then saw a coyote cross in front of her – wildlife abounds.

PSA for today: There have been some odd errors as some people have been ordering magnets. Others have been able to order with no issue. If you have an issue, respond to a blog or email us, we will get back with you. We just ask for a little time to respond, please. Remember there are two of us who support 270 of you and we are working/pedaling right along with you.

One Week In

Check out this sexy pair of pedaling potatoes! I’m a little biased but since I can be, I included a pic of my aunt and uncle, both potatoes for several years now.

We didn’t add any official potatoes since last night (as of my typing this) but we do have over 8500 miles to our credit and 190 potatoes on the road. Day seven does include 3 potatoes over the 200 mile mark as well.

I’m calling out our 79 spuds who took the time to sign up but haven’t gotten off the couch yet – what are you waiting for? We’re a week in and no pedaling yet. To all other potatoes – if you know one of these tots, take them out on the road with you. We don’t want any DUD SPUDS (a spud that doesn’t finish!).

Potato Happenings:

Swimming Spud is off the couch for his first post-COVID activity.

Yam Kronen is pedaling away with the biker chick gang of 6 potatoes while Mythical Potato is getting her potato butt kicked by her Zwift.

Swisher Sweet Potato was checking out wild turkeys (the bird, not the drink) as she amassed over 200 miles.

Billy Spud is sharing his potato humor: How do you eat a potato? One bite at a time.

6 Days of Pedaling

We’re 6 days in and have 3 more official potatoes crossing the finish line. Bramboregg has earned a magnet with 136 miles. Also over the finish line is LowTato with 109.1 miles. FaHashn Brown is right behind her with exactly 109 miles. Congrats to our recent finishers.

As we check the mileage, we see over 7400 potato miles have been pedaled by a total of 184 potatoes. Lots of you are off the couch already.

Since we are a quarter of the way through our tour, we’re going to shout out our potatoes who are at the 25 mile mark today. Check out Emily Allen Poe-Tato with 25.5 miles; Robert Bakes Potatoes with 25.16 miles; Tati Yam with exactly 25 miles and Potato Loco also with exactly 25 miles. Consistency will get them a magnet for sure! Keep on pedaling.

Potato Happenings:

Rain or Shine Tater is on the road during lunch after spinning in the morning – doing double duty today.

Few Potato is a Hater Tater when it comes to mornings but had to do it to get those miles in.

Spud Ice is off the couch today and checking off some of those miles toward a magnet.

Yogatato was on the bike early this morning as well – pre-Yoga workout, of course.

Wacked Potato and Tater Malla both opted for the indoor version today – Wacked on the Peleton and Malla on the Zwift (with a visit to a neon filled city).

Five Days in and Still Pedaling

The potatoes are a’pedalin’ – we’re 5 days in and already up to 10 official potatoes. Three more made it over the line today including Swisher Sweet Potato (I think it was yesterday?) with 148.9 miles and a snapping turtle after her tire. Tri Potato and Spuds O’Connor both finished the day with exactly 100 miles and a new magnet. Congratulations to our newest potatoes.

We’re over 6300 total miles with 171 potatoes on the road. I’m starting to eye those of you who haven’t started yet. Betting on who will be a DUD SPUD…

Potato Happenings:

Weather was a factor for a few of our spuds today. Simmering Spud was out playing, I mean racing, in the rain this morning. Ain’t No Tater High Enough was pedaling with several “Biker Chicks” from Crawford County Illinois in the heat.

CycoTater got in a short ride before work that included a nasty hill – Merry Point Ferry Hill if anyone is interested.

The above weather didn’t factor into Potato Prez’s ride as Zwift took him around New York City today.

Potatoes Poppin’ Off for the 4th

It’s Independence Day and our potatoes are stretching their legs. We’re adding SIX official potatoes today. Stormin’ Spud is over the finish line with 128 miles while LatKeys finished right behind her with 127 miles. Bumble Spud has a new magnet with 122.7 miles. Decapotato earned another magnet with 113.9 miles (so far – we know he’ll do more). Potato Chip Rock is also racking up the miles while jamming to the rock n’ roll tunes for 105 miles and a magnet. Just over the finish line is Mythical Patata with 101 miles – she wasn’t sure she was over the line after a broken chain cut the ride short. Congratulations to all of our potatoes who made it official today.

We have another five potatoes who are under 20 miles from the finish line. Tater Excellency is just about done with 96.1 miles and creeping up on the finish line is Spuds O’Connor with 89 miles. Tri Potato is under 15 miles to go with 86 miles and Swisher Sweet Potato is at 82.9 miles. With exactly 20 miles to go is FaHashn Brown checking in with 80 miles (and a few dodged squirrels).

Potato Happenings:

Spudly, CycoTater, Yogatato and CompuTater were all out there together today celebrating the holiday for a ride early this morning.

Spudly Beach Bum and Surfin’ Spud have picked up where they left off last year – pedaling to the best food and drink options. Today was a cold brew and a croissant.

Later Tater got in her first post-Covid ride today – woo hoo.

Mama Spud and Papa Spud were out on the road to get their tour started.

Mythical Patata wasn’t the only broken chain today. Seitz and Sounds Spud had one as well – 80 blocks (but who’s counting) from home. Helmer Spud didn’t break his but helped out another rider with theirs (helpful potato).

Tugatuber was Tugging a mini-tuber with her today. A tot-in-training?

And finally, Kartoffel Kaiser is getting in her protein – yep, the bug flew in her mouth and no amount of water, spitting, etc. would make it better. I say bring on the margarita.

Nothing is Rotten in Denmark

We’re only three days in and we have our first official potato. Marshmallow Fluff Potato crossed the 100 mile threshold today with 104.1 miles. She is one of 135 potatoes on the road and eleven of those are half way or more.

Over 3500 miles have been pedaled in our 3 days so far. I’m sure we’ll be breaking records this year.

Potato Happenings:

Last of the Potatoes is constantly riding into the wind on the gulf coast, but still adding up the miles. Fry Alicia had a serious climb up to the school house but was rewarded with chocolate chip cookies – worth the ride. Commissioner Potato found too many hills on his ride, but again – the miles are adding up.

Chilli Cheese Fries was out with the hubster on a ride while Sooper Spud rode further than she has in over 25 years – go girl! Yogatato was out for an early morning ride -maybe to beat the heat?

The wild life was out today as well. Blooming Spud saw (and stayed away from) a bobcat and either Yes Ma’am Yam or 50 in 50 Potato was held up by geese crossing.

Potato Prez did his Zwift miles in London while watching the boys in Denmark and Bumble Spud is riding through Sweden. An international ride for sure.

Potato Names: yes, I come up with your names based on a few things. I’m happy to take suggestions, etc. but remember, each name is unique. I can’t change your name to something someone already has. We’re happy to have had about 600 different participants and that’s a LOT of potato names. Please send your suggestions – based on something someone does, their name, etc. I may (or may not) make the change!

Day 2 and over 2000 miles

Day 2 was a busy day for the potatoes. We’ve got 104 potatoes off the couch and Decapotato is already closing in on his magnet with over 80 miles. As a group, we’re over 2000 miles on day two – pedal potatoes, pedal!

We have potatoes pedaling inside, outside and all around. I see lots of Pelotons and several potatoes are outside enjoying the 4th of July weekend.

Potato Happenings:

Spudlicious is one of those on the Peloton but looking to get back outside tomorrow and Tri Potato is already outside exploring trails around her new house. Also enjoying the neighborhood is DrewTuber – but maybe not enjoying it so much – he forgot it’s super hilly!

Fry Like an Eagle and Oh-Kay Tuber were enjoying the OBX for the holiday and took in the Wright Bros. Memorial on bikes – gotta get those miles in. Also enjoying history as one of our potatoes rode to Mt. Vernon but I don’t have a name – help a potato out please. 😀

Commissioner Potato and Disorderly Tater and continuing a family ride for the 4th. Looks like they’re adding riders as they go – hopefully new potatoes.

Mythical Patata made her way through the end of a parade route. She should have just added some streamers and joined in.

And they’re off

With a record number of potatoes this year (268), the 2022 edition of Le Tour de Couch Potato is off to an awesome start. We have 47 potatoes stomping on their pedals already and almost 800 miles logged. Those boys in France have nothing on us.

Mythical Patata and Stormin’ Spud are checking in with over 40 miles each while close on their tail are Marshmallow Fluff Potato and LowTato.

Keep an eye on our three potatoes who have finished every edition of the Couch Potato – Duchess Potato, Madam Tuber (yours truly) and Bubba Spud – can they all make it 12 years in a row?

Here’s hoping we have more finishers than ever and no DUD SPUDS!

Potato Happenings:

Marshmallow Fluff Potato was able to get all those miles on her Peloton as a now retired, spoiled rotten potato – her inner jock has joined her inner child and both are happy to be back.

Cajun Gator Tater is tipping the helmet to La Nuova Patata for letting her borrow her bike (though she went through 3 tubes on a short ride).

Irish Spud, Harley Taterson, Papas Marinas, and Rob Roy Tuber are all excited to be out for another tour. Spuddux, Yam Kronen, Swisher Sweet Potato, and Tom Tater all got to enjoy the outdoors – Tom Tater’s enjoyment was in question as he had to ride between the raindrops.

Potato Prez started off today in 94 degrees but a nice flat ride – he’s looking for magnet number 10! Billy Spud joined a group ride on the bike that goes nowhere to start looking for magnet number 1!

Did you know…the 1st Tour de France started on this date in 1903? It lasted for 19 days – thanks Mystery Spud for our fun fact of the day!
