With one week to pedal, hang on to your helmets, this is going to be a one long update. We’re calling out our potato groups to make sure everyone knows where we have them (if they aren’t yet finished). Before we do that, we have to shout out our 10 newest official taters who are stomping on those pedals for their magnet. Swan Song Spud took a big leap in miles today to finish with a total of 146.0 miles. Potato Cake is also adding up the miles – 121.6 miles to be exact – for another magnet. Mann, I feel like a Potato is over the finish line with 119.7 miles.
Our next group of potatoes finished in a pack – really close to each other on miles. 50 in 50 Potato leads the way in this group with 106.95 miles. Right behind her is Hazeltot with 106.89 miles. Nipping on her heals is I Do Potato at 106.72 miles. Less than a mile back is our next finisher – Tater Malla at 105.83 miles. Nip it in the Spud did just that, crossing the century mark with 104.86 miles.
Toni the Spud – Lovely ride through the country. Made a stop at the Veterans Cemetery to visit a friend who lost the battle against multiple myeloma. Rode to the entrance of the Arc Encounter to take a peek at this infamous Ark, and finally relaxed knowing I completed the challenge with 104.79 miles.
Our tenth finisher today is Yam Kronen, bringing it in with 102.76 miles. Congratulations to all of our finishers today. Keep it going to get to that 30K mark!
Potato Happenings
Instead of focusing on just our taters with 30 to go, we’re going to group our taters who are off the couch into 10 mile groups.
Hanging out with 10 or less miles to go (these are our 90s tots): Darth Tater, Kim Jong Spud, Potato Loco, Spudding Genius, Simmering Spud, Tuber Effect, Kartoffel Kaiser and here’s what they have reported today. Darth Tater – I biked completely (and only) around my neighborhood and clocked 39.9 miles! Whew! (Picture to follow)
Our potatoes in the 80s include: La Nuova Patata, New Potato, Campbell’s Potato Soup, Commissioner Potato, Disorderly Tater, Fry Fry Baby, Artful Tuber, Hash Slinger, CFNo Spud. And here’s what they have to say today: Disorderly Tater – Two hot potatoes logging miles through the back roads of Carroll county, Maryland. Finding shade where we could. No rain in the forecast, but soaring temperatures helped us become baked potatoes. The goal is in sight.
The potatoes in the now “30 to go” – or the 70s are: Irish Spud, Harley Taterson, Spuddy Holly, Russet Ranger, Sour Mash Spud, Last of the Potatoes, Pump up the Yam, Kato Potato, Duchess Potato, Grape Tater, Baked Potato, A-Peeling Esther. One report from this group: Duchess Potato – First ride back after carpal tunnel surgery; one-handed & slow – and annoying! – but got to get that magnet and keep the record perfect!

Quite the balmy ride this morning…. Helped 2 baby turtles cross the road:) Cajun Gator Tater – Because every miles to get to 30k! Chilli Cheese Fries – I’m going to keep going… Fo Fanna Potato – No one told me that when I encouraged Sewin Spuds to become a potato that after a couple years he was going to try to log more miles than me. Whhhaaaattt? I have inadvertently created an in house rivalry! (Madam Tuber LOVES this!!!) Loch Ness Potato – Fast ride down to Windmill Point in Virginia’s beautiful NNK in 93% humidity! Mythical Patata – Sweltering in FL so forced inside for Peloton rides.
