Even the trees are happy to see us pedal

So great to see all these potatoes earning magnets and we have SO MANY that are very close. We are sustaining our 1000 mile a day average and are just over 21,500 miles total.

Hooray for Potatoes is “DONE” with 114.5 miles and says its time to relax. CompuTater finished at 109.9 miles and in the company of CycoTater and Spudly. Papa Spud is also done for another magnet with 102.61 miles. Just behind him is Lord Patata with 102.39 miles. Casey at the Bat Potato has them both in her sights with 102.24 miles. Harley Taterson’s grand finale ride was an early morning trip around the Westminster East Velodrome with Coach filming the final laps as he hit 101.53 miles. Surfin’ Spud caught his final wave of miles and finished with 101.4 and Salt Life Yam is the proud owner of another magnet with 100.5 miles. 50 Shades of Spud is over the century mark with 100.5 miles and experience bike tights for the first time…hope her bum feels better than it normally does (love that padding).

Congratulations to the latest official potatoes, bringing the total number of magnet earners to 107.

Potato Happenings:

Spudly Beach Bum spent some miles riding around looking for strawberry daquiris :-). Super Chipski went out for a ride to visit the turtle they rescued and released, then rode around the island.

Seafaring Spud and Wolfpack Potato were together again on the W&OD trail in Purcellville VA riding toward Leesburg, enjoying the rural beauty…almost got a bunny but no animals were harmed in the earning of these magnets.

Small Fry was out riding around in her bathing suit so she was able to jump into the pool after the ride!

Complitater thought Le Tour would be a “breeze” – turns out she’s a Pro-tater-castinater. She hasn’t given up so was up at 5:30 to get some miles in. Unfortunately, the body is used to only caffeine that early. Had a sleep-ride and the appreciation of trying to get in 100 miles hit about 6 hours after the ride. We’re with you Complitater – and hoping you’ll finish…go for it!!!

PSA from fellow tater: Yogatato is a yoga instructor and after earning her second magnet she would like to offer any potato who finished LTdCP a free yoga class. She is in the Northern Neck, VA area so if you live in that area and are interested, please check out her website here: Insideout Yoga

DUD SPUDS in training?

The potatoes are pedaling like crazy with only 3 days left. We’re over 20,500 miles and just added 11 more potatoes that made it official. Flower Power Potato starts us off today, finishing with 116.94 miles. Manntater and Tati Yam are neck and neck with 103.4 miles and 103.0 miles respectively.

Seafaring Spud at 102.45 miles and Wolfpack Potato at 100.5 miles were out riding past Leesburg VA with a variety of wildlife. They headed down the W&OD trail, culminating in a tour of a vintage caboose in Herndon VA…and magnets to top it all off.

Scribing Spud is over the finish line with 102.0 miles. And eeking over the line are 5 additional potatoes: PoKaeTo with 100.8 miles, Gator Bait Potato with 100.45 miles, Yam Kronen in at 100.16 miles, 2Ber Fit checking in with 100.9 miles and Potato Loco hitting exactly 100.0 miles. Potato Loco was unsure she would make it with some health concerns but she pedaled through for that magnet.

Congratulations to this large group of potatoes!

Potato Happenings:

Harley Taterson was out and about again, enjoying the Ashland Trail in Baltimore County. 50 Shades of Spud did a quick out and back…eatin’ up those miles like butter on a spud (yummy). Dre’ Tater hit the road between storms to get the last of her miles in. I think we reported her as finished previously so there may have been a mix up in miles – we’ll get it right.

Three days remain for our pedaling potatoes. We have a bunch that are less than 10 miles from the finish line. Check out Bubba Spud – she needs less than 6 miles to complete her tour and she’ll have finished every Couch Potato…hope she makes it. There are 11 others with her in the 90 – 99 mile range.

Eleven is also the number of potatoes in the 80s – under 20 miles to go. You have the finish line in your sights.

There are ten potatoes in the 70s – that means with less than 10 miles a day, you will be done.

Twelve are hanging out in the 60s – definitely realistic with the weekend coming up. A couple long rides and you have a magnet for your fridge. I think the seven potatoes in the 50s can join you.

Our other 24 potatoes that are off the couch but not quite half way done. You have a lot of pedaling ahead of you in the next three days but I don’t want to see you become DUD SPUDS…you got off the couch so find those padded shorts and tough it out.

Then there are our 37 potatoes that are still on the couch…hmmm – DUD SPUDS in training? Prove me wrong!

Tales of a Mashed Potato

We’re over 19,000 miles and 86 official potatoes, adding 5 more today:

Candied Yam has earned another magnet for her fridge with 116.3 miles while 50 in 50 Potato is close behind with113.05 miles. CycoTater rode her Brown Store loop in reverse today with a killer hill at the beginning to cross the finish line with 107.25 miles and a nice tail wind – Vive Le Tour De Couch Potato!

Potato Sticks is also finished up for another year with 104 miles. Incognito Potato snuck across the line, didn’t think we’d notice but we see those 100.11 miles.

Magnets and congratulations all around.

Potato Happenings:

YIKES – a mashed potato to report today. Potato Prez got his front wheel stuck in the boards of a temporary bridge on his ride. Beyond some road rash, Potato Prez is reporting in OK – whew…the bike, not so much. It does need some repairs so his Le Tour is done for the year at 169.77 miles…most miles for any of his tours.

50 Shades of Spud has gotten into a nice routine with Le Tour and is looking to continue beyond the 18th. Happy we could start something she’ll continue and look forward to her back next year. She’s getting lights for her bike so she can continue her early morning rides. Locked-N-Loaded Spud is also out in the early mornings – taking advantage of some unseasonably cool mornings in Texas.

Loly Pop Potato always enjoys her rides and reports another happy day out on the road.

Learning new lingo

More potatoes made it official today with only 5 days of pedaling remaining.

Mama Spud is finishing “Down the Ocean, Hon” with 117.11 miles (I had to look it up). Lazzo Tater is also across the finish line with 115.6 miles and happy to have a new magnet to show for those miles. Dre’ Tater is right behind with 115.2 miles to show for all her hard work and Potato Wedges earns a magnet with 110.83 miles. Nice job potatoes! With all that pedaling, you helped bring the team to just over 18,600 miles.

Potato Happenings:

Sporty Spud rode her Peloton for 60 continuous minutes for the first time today – excellent accomplishment! – and is enjoying the challenge on her way to a magnet (almost there!!). Harley Taterson was out and around his own East Middle Velodrome to appreciate the beautiful weather this morning.

Locked-N-Loaded Spud was enjoying low 70s…unusual for Texas this time of year. Get out and ride in it while you can.

Seafaring Spud and Wolfpack Potato were out for a beautiful, early morning ride to beat the heat. They hit the W & OD trail again and enjoyed the deer and birds who were oblivious to the humans.

While all these peeps were out enjoying the day, Fat Tire Tater had the right idea partaking in an apple turnover after his ride. I may need to go find one of those…

Reminder – log your miles using the exact email you registered with or they won’t show up. Pedaling ends at midnight, July 18 and all miles need to be entered by midnight July 19.

Starting the countdown to Paris

We’re just shy of 17,500 miles and celebrating 7 more official couch potatoes today. Countess Tater was able to get logged in and caught up on her miles for her magnet and 114.17 miles. Yamyscira also has another magnet with 105.83 miles – she pedals while working…it’s quite a setup. Traffic Yam did not get stuck in traffic on the way to 103.65 miles and a new magnet for the fridge. Signature Spud is also finished with 102.4 miles and Yogatato go to 102.0 miles with a 6 am ride to Weems. Bean Counting Potato counted out 101.9 miles to cross the century mark. Tattie Tater is also finished with 101.25 miles. Congrats to our latest finishers, bringing us to 76 official taters so far.

Potato Happenings:

Tater Lime is enjoying being over the 200 mile mark. He joins 12 other potatoes who have crossed that milestone. We have two in the 300s, one in the 400s and Decapotato is over the 700 mile mark.

Yam Kronen keeps finding the rain each time she goes out for a ride so it’s the trainer still – but the miles count the same. Dre’ Tater and Uetz Chips were out together today enjoying an unseasonable cool day in Indiana. Their sights included a life-size elephant statue (to be posted in Facebook).

We’re watching closely for our DUD SPUDS…you have six more days to pedal. Pedaling stops at midnight, July 18 and all miles must be entered by midnight, July 19 so the final report can be compiled.

Only one week of pedaling remains

Still stomping on the pedals and up to 16,550 miles, we added seven more official potatoes today. Starch Trek transported himself over 118.8 miles for a magnet while Tombet Tater must have done the math for a nice 111.1 miles. Potato Cake has another magnet for her fridge with 105.2 miles. Melatater and Hause of Spuds both finished up with 104.0 miles. Haus of Spuds has to face down a bird that was chasing a bug. They locked eyes but thankfully the bird “chickened” out first. Haus of Spuds missed the bird by an inch. Fo’Fanna Potato is over the line with an “I made it!!” and an impressive 103.0 miles – after having to miss last year it was rewarding to finish up. Spud Ice finished with her longest ride to date and a total of 102.26 miles.

Potato Happenings:

Buck-A-Spud is done for the year due to travel without access to wheels, but fortunately over the century mark, all miles on the Reedville Velodrome.

Grape Tater is back in the saddle again and looking toward the finish line and another magnet. Had to take some time out for a little league tournament but is ready to put in the work needed this week to finish. Seafaring Spud and Wolfpack Potato are cranking out the miles now – this time through the hills (ugh!) of their neighborhood as they make their way to a magnet. Kartoffel Kaiser got two fellow taters off the couch today (glad to see them on the road). DupliTater and Chip Hop are pedaling now toward their magnet.

Rain or Shine Tater and Duchess Potato made their way out to New Point Comfort Lighthouse for a hot/breezy ride. And Marshmallow Fluff Potato is reporting in that her new, very cool, magnet has arrived and is looking good on the fridge!

The Madam is Late

My update is delayed but our potatoes were not. We have several official potatoes with magnets for their refrigerators.

Pump up the Yam rode the Reedville Velodrome to complete the miles needed for his magnet, totaling 108.5 miles and helping a turtle along the way – those first responders never stop. M&M Tater is over the finish line as well with 105.8 miles and yours truly, Madam Tuber, is done with 103.05 miles. Tuber Effect wrapped up Le Tour with 102.65 miles and a new magnet. Finishing close together are Nip it in the Spud with 101.74 miles and Mystery Spud, earning magnet number 7, with 101.5 miles. Tubermore and SpudStrong are both also official now with 100.99 miles and 100.07 miles respectively. Congratulations to all of newest official potatoes

Potato Happenings:

In other potato happenings, we’re over 15,000 miles (almost to 16K) and have just about 170 potatoes off the couch…fewer DUD SPUDS in the making. You should be in the 60-70 mile range if you’re spreading it out evenly over the three weeks. You’ll see those just over half way highlighted below.

Pacific Potato was out for the longest ride of his tour, borrowing his father’s bike while visiting home. Pommes Soufflées is also out riding while on vaca – enjoying Burlington, VT.

Potato Jam and crew found a toilet along side the road so were spared the use of a porta-john…just saying. Papas Marinas is still racking up the miles while participating in a micro-tri and then adding some extras.

Seafaring Spud and Wolfpack Potato were out enjoying the W&OD trail from Vienna to Sterling VA and back – herding deer along the way that were in no hurry to move. They got these miles in the bag and are looking for a magnet.

Pig-Pen Potato is gettin’ back into it and over the half way mark now…here comes a magnet. Joining him just over half way are Dre’ Tater, Sporty Spud, Kartoffel Kaiser, Spuddles, Yam Kronen, Tug-A-Tuber, Simmering Spud and Harley Taterson. All in the 50 mile range and ready to finish strong over the last week.

The Reedville Velodrome

As we cross 14,000 miles today, we have two more official potatoes who have earned magnets. Uetz Chips has 103.8 miles for another magnet and FaHashn Brown has 101.0 miles that will earn new refrigerator decoration. Congratulations to you both.

Potato Happenings:

Check out the great pic and video (on Facebook) from Chips A’Jorge – what a great cause!

Pump up the Yam is ‘inching’ closer to that magnet. Although he joined the Capitol Trail ride on Wednesday, he’s an “on duty” first responder that has to stay close to a boat (thank you for your service). He gets his mileage in by riding up and down the road in front of his house – a one mile back and forth…Buck-A-Spud calls it the Reedville Velodrome.

Yesterday the snake didn’t make it…by all reports, the piglets today did. CycoTater came across some excitable livestock on the road and had to dodge a bunch of piglets on her ride. Fortunately, no Pigs or Potatoes were harmed in the cycling today.

50 Shades of Spud is happy to have joined Le Tour this year and likes watching the miles add up each day. Hopefully, we have a convert and she’ll be back next year.

On the Peloton again today were Potato Chip Rock (in the French Alps – nice!) and Tombet Tater (for a ride and run – ambitious!)

164 Pedaling Potatoes – check your mileage. If you aren’t at halfway, use this weekend to pump up the mileage. We have just over a week of pedaling left – you started, you gotta finish!

Now for the DUD SPUDS…come on, get on those bikes and pedal. You took the time to sign up…now lets log some miles. We would really love to have over 200 finishers this year…and make our goal of 30,000 miles.

Le Tour de Snake?

We’re over half way through Le Tour de Couch Potato number 11 and we have even more official potatoes today. They are rolling in like crazy. Hot German Potato Salad has another magnet with123.0 miles. Last of the Potatoes is also finished with 114.91 miles while Truckin’ Tuber has logged 105.38 miles. Potato Prez is checking in with 100.15 miles for magnet number 9. Congratulations to our latest finishers!

Potato Happenings:

Papas Marinas is to thank for our headline today. It was a choice between the car and the snake. With a car coming from the left and a snake sunbathing across the road in front and no chance to evade, the snake lost. Fortunately, he didn’t tangle up in the wheel. Sorry Mr. Snake – but we’re glad Papas Marinas is not a mashed potato!

In other news, since we’re over half way, our pedaling potatoes should be over half way as well. We have 55 pedaling potatoes who aren’t quite to the half way mark. If you know one of them, take them out for a ride. With the weekend coming up, there’s time to pedal.

I’m also seeing a LOT of potential DUD SPUDS – 51 potatoes not yet off the couch…YOU CAN DO IT. I will soon have to resort to public shaming for our potential DUD SPUDS.

We’re over the 13,000 mile mark and climbing – 30,000 is the goal and here we come! Pedal on Potatoes.

Fast and Furious Pedaling

This info is accurate as of 5:00 but with all the pedaling going on, it is probably inaccurate by the time I get done. Pedal away and Congratulations to our newest official potatoes.

Buck-A-Spud crossed the finish line today with 127.49 miles. Irish Spud and Loch Ness Potato are both earning another magnet today with 125.7 miles and 120.97 miles respectively. Also over the century mark today is Swan Song Spud with 116 miles.

There was quite the ride on the Capital Trail today and a few potatoes over the line. They then celebrated with a little rehydration (thanks for the pic). Included and earning a magnet was Rowtato with 106.2 miles who checked in with a “great ride on the Capital Trail with a dozen or so other Couch Potatoes!” and Spudly with 101.1 miles who “Rode 50 miles on the Capital Trail with the Pedal Posse. Had a flat with 6 miles to go, but got myself combobulated and finished.”

LowTato is also official today with 102.25 miles and an eventful ride with StarchTrek. Saw Chili Cheese Fries going the opposite direction, checked out a Typhoon sailboat for sale at mile 30!

Potato Happenings:

Pacific Potato got his tour off to a late start but today was the 6th day in a row of riding and he’s on a pace to meet the goal that feels achievable no DUD SPUD here. Cajun Gator Tater had a great ride with La Nuova Patata and a tip of the helmet to New Potato for letting Cajun ride his bike. Bud Spud got in a good ride before dark while Tombet Tater was on the Peloton for a 10K at 22mph – wishing he could run that fast.

As always in July, the weather was predictable – HOT, HOT, HOT. Mystery Spud had a hot & humid in central MD and CycoTater had a fiery head wind from hell the WHOLE ride. I think it was uphill both ways, too. 50 Shades of Spud had it a bit better in Oregon…it was overcast in the a.m.!

News on some mileage for us. We’re half way through this year’s tour (I know, hard to believe) and currently at 12,362 miles. NOT half way to our total miles last year – see below. Think we can hit the 30K mileage mark this year? There are currently 159 of us pedaling so it’s possible.
