Smooth Sailing Spuds

It looked like a quieter day today but we still had a lot of potatoes making it official today. Included in the group is Spudette with 139.0 miles pedaled for a new magnet. Bandit Yam racked up a total of 115.5 miles – he hit the Capital Trail early this morning to beat the heat for a metric century (62.3 miles) – longest ride of his year! Bishop Tuber is also over the finish line with 111.91 miles. Iron Tater has another magnet with 106.42 miles. Almighty Spud and Drunk Spud both finished today with 104.0 miles and Spud Luda hit exactly 100.00 miles for her magnet.

Potato Happenings:

Our potatoes were a bit quiet today – recovering from the holiday weekend, maybe? We did cross over 11,000 miles and we have 157 potatoes on the road. That does leave a bunch on the couch with less than two weeks to pedal…hmmm.

50 Shades of Spud was out enjoying the early morning as was Pig-Pen Potato. Yam Kronen decided to stay indoors today due to heat and humidity.

Day 10 takes us over 10,000 Miles

Several potatoes made it official over the last two days. Some were after yesterday’s update and others crossed the threshold today. Congratulations to our latest potatoes earning their magnets:

Green Eggs & Yam finished up for his first magnet with 142.68 miles while Red Bliss Potato crossed the line with 120.6 miles. Robert Tuberson has also earned a magnet with 118.8 magnet. Duchess Potato did her annual post office ride to officially finish every Le Tour de Couch Potato, earning magnet number 11 with 117.35 miles. Meadow Lark Potato is over the finish line with 109 miles. Out on today’s ride with him was Potato Jam, also earning a magnet with 107.5 miles. Eeking over the century mark for magnets number 10 are both Home Fries with 102.2 miles and Texas Potato with 102 miles. Spud Funk finished up with 100.9 miles and Tottering Tater is done with exactly 100 miles.

Potato Happenings:

We’re still just over 150 cycling spuds, leaving about 50 potatoes couch surfing (including my husband, just sayin’). I smell some DUD SPUDS cooking.

Keeping company with Meadow Lark Potato and Potato Jam as they finished up were Mama Spud, Papa Spud and Bean Counting Spud – with Mama and Bean Counting training for the Trek Across Maryland.

Melatater was out for a birthday ride – Happy Birthday!!! – on the Capital Trail today and Manntater was off the couch (or spuds) to ride to see the fireworks. Spudly Beach Bum is up to old tricks again – pizza, beer and biking – making it work. Hooray Potato was dodging fiddler crabs today while Kartoffel Kaiser was scaring the black angus cattle. They snorted at her and then made their way to the other side of the pasture.

Mythical Patata was out on the docks in Annapolis and OrienTater was reclaiming the streets for cyclists. Unfortunately, Tug-A-Tuber was doing her pedaling with a hangover today…at least she was upright 🙂

Potatoes Poppin’ off for July 4th

Two more potatoes made it official today: Fitz and the Tater Tantrums pedaled a total of 115.03 miles for his magnet while Artful Tuber finished up with 101.33 miles today. Congratulations to our newest official potatoes. Along with the other 153 potatoes that are off the couch, we passed the 9000 mile mark today. GO US!

Potato Happenings:

Incognito Potato is looking for double miles for pedaling while pulling the bike trailer (just did double the work). Duchess Potato and Rain or Shine Potato got the “Sterling Experience” this morning – a long, fast ride was reported. Spud Ice was pedaling both inside and outside today and wishing all a Happy 4th. Also sending Happy 4th wishes are Yogatato and Chilli Cheese Fries – Yogatato riding for the first time with the posse this year and Chilli Cheese Fries starting the 4th off right. Distilled Tater rode up on a motorcycle wedding at the turnaround point today.

Potato Loco is going the slow and steady route this year on her exercise bike while her son, Tuber Effect and sister, Spud Luda at battling it out on the roads. Family Potato battle happening here for sure!

Here’s wishing you all a safe and happy Independence Day. Enjoy the holiday with family and pedal safely!

Spudtacular Second Saturday

As we make our way into the second week of Le Tour de Couch Potato, we’re celebrating 6 more official couch potatoes. Loly Pop Potato has another magnet for her refrigerator with 142.10 miles. Loaded Potato finished up today as well with 133.10 miles. With his quickest trip to more than 100 miles, Tater Lime is at 107.50 miles. Fat Tire Tater’s 105.10 miles earn him his first magnet (in his words – Wooo!) while Mythical Patata is adding to her magnet collection with 104.34 miles. Also over the finish line today for a magnet today is Stormin’ Spud at 103.00 miles.

Congratulations to our latest official potatoes as they helped us amass almost 8000 miles (7914.95 so far). We have 149 potatoes on the road with the others in jeopardy of becoming DUD SPUDS…if you know someone who isn’t off the couch yet, bring them for a ride.

Potato Happenings:

More firsts on the road today with Artful Tuber finishing her longest ride ever followed by the need for a nap. Pig-Pen Potato was on the bike for the first time since November. Definitely feeling it but he knows it can only get better from here. Fitz and the Tater Tantrums hit 47.2 MPH on a down hill : ) – excellent firsts / accomplishments.

Potatoes are also celebrating the holiday with some camping, vacations, and enjoying the sights. Tubermore is camping at Ouabache State Park, Indiana for the 4th of July weekend. Spuddles is there as well. They are enjoying a beautiful park, beautiful bike path into Bluffton with friends and potatoes alike. Locked-N-Loaded Spud reports the rain stopped, ride’s done, now vacation starts! OrienTater took a short morning bike to the farmers market and some macchiatos by the waterside, with Uber-Trail Tuber. Tug-A-Tuber Rode down to new point observation deck and took in the beautiful bay views and we’re thankful for our freedom and the views we get to see! Spud Funk was found by a thunderstorm on his ride today and 50 Shades of Spud likes her early morning rides the best – less autos, less fumes!

While those potatoes were checking out the great outdoors, others were inside but still checking out sights in their own way. Lenko Latkes is ‘chipping’ away on the NordicTrack, rode in Switzerland today while nursing some Achilles tendonitis. Tombet Tater was also on another peloton ride. Not sure where he went but hopefully somewhere fun.

Big first week for Le Tour

Wow, what a first week we have had. On our 7th day of pedaling we have seven new official potatoes. Included are:

Hot Potato who has another magnet for her fridge with 136 miles. Loaded Potato is also over the century mark with 133.1 miles. Mythical Patata finished up with 104.34 miles while Potato Chip Rock logged 103.5 miles for a new magnet. New Potato and La Nuova Patata experienced lots of yesterday’s storm debris on the road and a cloudy, cool day to “git ‘er done” with 101.9 miles. Marshmallow Fluff Potato earned her first (but certainly not last) magnet with 101 miles. Congratulations to our latest official couch potatoes.

Potato Happenings:

We blew past 7000 miles like it was nothing and now have 145 off the couch. Are we smelling some dud spuds?

Pacific Potato is off the couch with  his first ride of the tour and Pommes soufflées is kicking off holiday weekend with another ride toward a magnet. Tombet Tater was on the peloton watching Mark Cavendish power thru while Tater Lime was trying to bike off his Taco Bell lunch! Spud Funk got to take a break during his ride and have some Beach Time with family before heading back home!

The weather definitely made itself known today as we pedaled. Harley Taterson spent a gorgeous day in Westminster Maryland riding through town. 50 Shades of Spud had a gloomy over-cast day – but a ride always brings a smile! Bud Spud and Microchip got in 10 miles in at Centennial Park, braving the forecasted severe storms – they got totally soaked and heard thunder rumble but we did not go indoors 😉

“Gearing” up for the weekend

The potatoes are piling up as we add 4 more “official” couch potatoes today. Hot Potato earns a magnet with 136 miles while Pro Potato finishes up with 110 miles. Also over the century mark (she hoped to finish early) is Locked-N-Loaded Spud with 106.7 miles. Also just over the finish line is one of our rookies this year, Bourbon Mash Potato at 101.69 miles. Congratulations to all of you. Magnet goodness is coming your way.

Potato Happenings:

With 141 potatoes off the couch, we’re hitting the road hard already. As a group we’re over 6,000 miles and counting. Tonight we’re going to spotlight our potatoes in the 60s. Full disclosure – I just got back from Music Bingo and heard a lot of 60s music…

Tied at the head of the pack for our 60s riders are New Potato and La Nuova Patata, both with 69.55 miles. They’re pedaling together for their 9th and 8th magnets. Green Eggs & Yam is right behind them at 68.26 miles and hot on his tail is Fitz and the Tater Tantrums at 67.81 miles. Not to be left behind is Spud Lite with 67.66 miles. I think you can throw a blanket over this group…who will cross the century mark first?

Not to be left behind are the other four potatoes also in the 60s: Surfin’ Spud is checking in with 65.4 miles and Tottering Tater has 63.1 miles. Bishop Tuber pedaled his way to 62.06 miles. Making an impressive showing this year is Home Fries – she normally pedals 5 miles a day to finish up right at 100 but she turned on the gas this year and looks to finish WAY early for magnet number 10.

Administrivia:

Side note for the weekend – with the holiday coming up, I will be traveling so will do my best to blog each evening. The timing will be off as I’m spending time with family. Pedaling patience please.

Hump Day on the Pedals

It’s Hump Day and another crazy day out on the streets for our potatoes. We have another three official potatoes today. Zappa Patata is over the finish line with 133.5 miles. Rico Suave Potato has also earned another magnet with 102 miles. The Spudster is also finished with 101.1 miles. Congrats to all of you and check your email for a note about your finishers magnet. You all did your part to get us over 5000 miles pedaled.

Potato Happenings:

Also hitting the mean “streets” and stomping on those pedals were Rowtato who helped out a turtle while getting off the couch. Got to protect those turtles and keep them out of the middle of the road. Spinning for a few miles (still HOT, even inside) was Rain or Shine Tater…I bet he had other potatoes in his class. Pommes Soufflees was on a Soul Ride while Harley Taterson and Mama Spud made their maiden voyages for the 2021 Le Tour. Also inside today was Yam Kronen – I guess the Chicago weather was not conducive to riding outside – so she hit the stationary bike.

Jungle Spud got some miles in but “it was no fun at all” – hopefully the next ride will be better. OrienTater was also inside to avoid the heat…maybe that’s what sucked the fun out of Jungle Spud’s ride. Tom Tater was out in the heat checking out the bluebirds.

I suspect as we turn the calendar into July, we’re going to be getting more of the heat – remember to hydrate while you’re out there (my PSA for the day). If you’re going to be inside, I hear there are some boys in France who decided to pedal at the same time we are. They are televised so if you’re looking for something to watch while pedaling the stationary, I recommend checking them out. Just please stay upright!

First Official Potatoes on Day 4

That’s right – we have five potatoes making it official today, crossing the 100 mile barrier. Decapotato earns another magnet with 149.37 miles, Chips A’Jorge is also over the line with 144.14 miles. Tater Vega finished with a nice round 120.0 miles while Tubin’ Tuber checks in with 117.5 miles. Rob Roy Tuber is also over the finish line with 104.15 miles. Congrats to all and magnets all around.

Potato Happenings:

Here’s hoping none of our potatoes drive a Jeep with a “Don’t Tread on me Plate” – one was spotted today giving the bird to a pedaling potato – Green Eggs and Yam got the bird not once, but twice on his ride today. Side note to be careful out there – vehicles don’t always watch out for us and tend to get aggressive for no reason. Glad Green Eggs and Yam finished his ride safely.

Salt Life Yam stopped along her ride to help a doe and her baby across the road (stopping traffic to help them). Simmering Spud is off to a slow start after returning from ND (side-note, I was born there!). Fo’Fanna Potato is happy to be off the couch after being sidelined for our last tour (looking for a magnet). 50 Shades of Spud is finding creative ways to get her miles in – to and from appointments!

Keep an eye on Artful Tuber’s miles – she’s front-loading in preparation for a vacation…good to plan ahead. M&M Tater enjoyed a “cool” front in Dallas to get some miles – what, was it down to only 90 degrees?? Potato Chip Rock was out for a HOT HOT ride.

I did notice Duchess Potato is JUST ahead of me in miles…I need to pick up my pace and pass her!

Over 100 Potatoes off the Couch

Oh yeah! We’re only on day 3 and we already have 105 potatoes off the couch. With 2825 miles pedaled, we’ll be over 3000 in no time. Keep stomping on those pedals!

Potato Happenings:

With three potatoes in the 90s, no one has become an official potato yet. We have Decapotato at 98.85 miles, Chips A’Jorge at 98.24 miles and Tater Vega at 90.0 miles. So close!

Also on the road are Meadow Lark Potato and Bean Counting Potato for a nice husband and wife trip while one of them is learning to shift gears. Iron Tater was out with mom and dad for a Potato family ride. 50 Shade of Spud was on the road early for a fresh start to her day and a smile on her face – ready for the day’s possibilities.

Fitz and the Tater Tantrums and SpudStrong were out for the Phaedra loop – the hills at the end made the views during the earlier part of the ride worth it. Potato Wedges was on the stationary bike during the golf playoff – the playoff took so many holes, she ended up with 10 miles. It looks like Potato Prez is making his way around the trails of Plano, TX. Loch Ness Potato earned 18.06 miles on her Helloton today (or is that Peloton?)

Serious Pedaling for a Sunday

Reporting in as of about 6:00 PM ET with 79 potatoes on the road. We’re up to 1875 miles pedaled after two days of riding. Go potatoes, go.

Potato Happenings:

OrienTater has started her first Le Tour with her furthest distance traveled from home since moving and the start of the pandemic. She found some new bike trails to travel as well. Checking in with 9.8 miles. Distilled Tater traversed 3 cemeteries on a hot, muggy ride today bringing her miles to 22 total. Bishop Tuber was the hero on the day, saving a box turtle from becoming a Mashed Potato (or turtle soup??) as he checks in with a total of 21.1 miles. Locked-N-Loaded Spud is happy to be getting in shape each July during the Le Tour de Couch Potato.

Now we’ll highlight those who are already over half way…Chips A’Jorge is checking in with 98.2 miles while Rob Roy Tuber has 70.9 miles. Potato Jam has hit exactly 60 miles while Tater Lime is over the half way mark at 54.2 miles. Decapotato is also over half way with 53.1 miles and previously mentioned Locked-N-Loaded Spud is getting into shape with 50.7 miles. Finally, new potato Bourbon Mash Potato has logged 50.2 miles. All are over half way to their new magnet. Let’s see who crosses the line in the next few days. I’m sure we’ll have our first official potato soon.

As always, if you know a potato on the couch who needs a little boost, bring them out for a ride.

Administrivia:

ALL potatoes should now have potato names…remember, I get bored on occasion (or hear great stories) so reserve the right to change them – no thin skin potatoes allowed!

Our blogs are posted around the same time each evening (unless I get lazy) and it takes a bit to compile everything. IF you aren’t included as an official potato, it could be that your miles came in after we started the blog for the evening – don’t worry, we’ll get it tomorrow!
