Saddle Up

It’s almost time for our Grand Depart: Register Here!

Pedaling begins tomorrow, July 1st and registration will close just before so this is your last chance to sign up. We’re continuing our online engagement from last year and leveraging the website, allowing us to eliminate emails in favor of daily (or almost daily) blog posts.
Tour information can be found on our website –> www.letourdecouchpotato.com. Be sure to follow our blog (link in the lower right corner) and/or via Facebook, so you’ll see the tour updates. That means no more emails after today!

Spread the word! Share with others who may be joining us for the first time as we love to see the tour grow. Just be sure they can follow the rules below.

Reporting Miles. Mileage tracking will all be done through the website – and is based on your registration email address. Be sure when you register, you remember the email address you registered with… if it’s different from what you use to track mileage, you won’t get credit.

2022 Dates to remember:

  • Ride dates: July 1st – July 24th
  • Registration will close at 12:01 AM, July 1st – as the ride begins. We aren’t capping the number of riders, but we will close registration once the ride begins.

The “Rules” are posted here.

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber

Mid-June Reminder: there’s still time to sign up!

If you haven’t registered yet, there’s still time: Register Here!

Our Grand Depart is July 1st and registration will close just before so sign up now.
That means No more emails after June 30!

The “Rules” are posted here with details below:

  • From July 1st – July 24th, you must ride at least 100 miles (no bonus for riding extra – just bragging rights!). Finishers get a “fancy” refrigerator magnet to show all your friends (preview this year’s magnet at the top of this blogpost)
  • Any miles ridden on a bike, and that can be tracked with an odometer, count toward your 100. If you attend a spin class and “guess” how far you went, that doesn’t count! The bike can be a mountain bike, street bike, recumbent bike, stationary bike…just track the miles.
  • Your bike must be entirely human powered…no electric bikes.
  • Mile’s running/walking don’t count…
  • Post your online mileage daily – or close to – so you’ll be included in the daily update. If you opt to email your mileage, it won’t be on the update! That’s your fault for not following directions 🙂 NOTE: The daily update takes a while to compile so if you posted your mileage in the evening, it may not get included until the next day.
  • Submit MILES please. Yep – we have lots of international riders and hope to gain more. I, however, learned the conversion of the metric system in junior high which was way too many years ago to count. Help a potato out here, please!
  • Updates come out almost daily – sometimes I get busy with work (or just lazy) and don’t get them out. The updates will be posted to Facebook as well
  • All riders get a potato name and I reserve the right to change your name on a whim. I also reserve the right to harass anyone I want to – hope you have thick potato skin
  • We’re here to have fun and this is a once a year event, make the most of it – have fun with us
Happy Pedaling, Madam Tuber

Couch Potato Sign Up is 6/1: What to expect

Registration for Le Tour de Couch Potato is June 1

Whether you’re a seasoned Couch Potato rider or newcomer to Le Tour, having good expectations of the sign-up process is important. After all, the cycling part should be the focus, right? Riding 100 miles in 23 days is a fun challenge – signing up & reporting mileage to Le Tour HQ should be the easy part!

Participant Communication

Madam Tuber will email previous participants on June 1 with a Registration Link. Remember: participation is free so share the email with a friend! To sign up, just provide basic information: your email address & name. We also collect other optional data, such as location (country/ state) and age – so add that as well, if you’re comfortable doing so. June 15 & 30 – Madam Tuber will send an email reminder & “last call” for riders before the official start date of Le Tour, July 1.

Daily Updates from Madam Tuber will be available to Le Tour de Couch Potato Blog subscribers and shared on our Facebook Group Page (search for “Le Tour de Couch Potato”). Blog Subscribers can decide how/ when to receive notifications on the daily entries.

The only other direct email from LTdCP Admins will come once you’ve completed 100 miles – Madam Tuber will send you a link to order your 2022 Commemorative Finisher Magnet.

Reporting Mileage

Your registration confirmation will include a link to use for reporting your mileage ridden. Simply click the link to enter miles ridden between July 1 & 24 – ideally on or close to the actual day you ride (our potato recordkeepers like to be up-to-date). It is super important to use the same email address you registered with – that’s how we line up the miles with the correct rider.

There’s also a space on the mileage report to add a fun story/ unique aspect of the day’s ride. Madam Tuber often includes these anecdotes in her daily blogpost. Share any pictures from your ride on Facebook too – they are really inspirational to fellow potato riders.

Most important of all – Have Fun.

* These t-shirts are sold online through Zazzle.Com, the same vendor we use for the Tour Magnets. LTdCP sponsors do not receive any income from the sale of our merch – the cost on each vendor’s space is determined by them alone.

Refer A Friend

Le Tour de Couch Potato® didn’t grow to its current size in just a day or even a year: the growth happened because YOU – our participants – enjoyed it and talked your family & friends into joining. The 100 miles (in 23 days) averages out to about 5 miles a day – so this challenge is within most people’s grasp.

Le Tour de Couch Potato – 2021 Final Report

Hard to believe but sadly it’s here

Le Tour de Couch Potato is done for the year

Potatoes pedaled like crazy, 143 crossed the line

Despite the heat/humidity, all look mighty fine

Finishing every tour, still there are three

Bubba Spud, Duchess Potato and Madam Tuber (that’s me!)

Two hit 10 years, check the hall of fame

Texas Potato, Home Fries, I’ll call you by name

Eight ready for patches at 5 years complete

Additional SWAG, Oh what a treat

Thirty-seven rookies all got it done

Come back next year for more of the fun

There was one potato that got a little mashed

Fortunately, he still finished with a splash

Then there are those who go by DUD SPUD

Signed up but didn’t finish, all to say is CRUD

That’s all for now and thank you for playin’

Hope you had fun; we did – just sayin’

Happy Pedaling,

Madam Tuber

Time to hang it up for this year’s tour

Swimming Spud is over the line with 105.90 miles. Small Fry also finished her miles with 102.00 miles and Optimash Prime has a new magnet 101.62 miles.

Remember all miles need to be entered by midnight tonight so we can compile the final report.

Several of you have passed along your thanks to those of us who put this on each year. You’re very welcome – and we would like to that you, as well, for participating with us. It’s a lot of fun for all of us and we’re glad you enjoy it.

The final countdown

We’re celebrating another group of official potatoes on our last day. Reporting in so far are:

Bud Spud is over the finish line with 106.20 miles. Pommes Soufflées was taken away by a family emergency but still pedaled her way to a magnet with 105.50 miles.

Distilled Tater is happy to report getting her miles in on the last day. Over the century mark with 104.38 miles. Tater Mountain is also done with 104.17 miles. Kartoffel Kaiser has another magnet with 103.20 miles and Spud Author crossed the finish line at 102.60 miles. Sweet Kinder Spud also has another magnet for her refrigerator with 102.40 miles.

Spuddles and Microchip are crossing the finish line right near each other at 101.95 miles and 101.80 miles respectively.

Lenko Latkes checking in as NOT a dud spud with 101.50 miles.

CompliTater made it happen this week! She reports the tour helped me really give cycling a try for the first time! and the first time was 101.39 miles.

Tom Tater completed the tour in three chunks between pool party, tubing on the river and after golf was cancelled, finishing with 100.71 miles.

Spuddy Holly is an official potato with 100.55 miles as is Grape Tater with 100.39 miles.

Bumble Spud got it in just under the wire, gotta have that magnet – finishing with 100.00 miles exactly.

Potato Happenings:

Remember that pedaling stops at midnight tonight so please check the mileage log as this is what we have for you so far. All miles need to be entered by midnight tomorrow night. I’ll have a brief blog tomorrow if we have additional potatoes with a final report coming out on Wednesday, July 21.

Bean Counting Potato ended up with a flat tire on the final day but had Meadow Lark Potato with her who changed it and they finished up a beautiful ride on the final day.

CycoTater also had a lovely early morning ride with spousal unit, aka Computater. Yogatater and FaHashn Brown joined as well as Dr. Jim (a potato for next year??)

Marshmallow Fluff Spud had a fun ride and is looking forward to representing when my jersey arrives (sharing: on peloton she’s #geezergl)

A Whole Crop of Official Potatoes

We have a whole crop of potatoes that made it official today, with only one day of riding left. We’re up to 125 official taters and 22,800 miles.

Pig – Pen Potato was so excited by Le Tour that he forgot to secure his computer. About 9 miles into the ride at 30 mph, it fell off. Knowing it was necessary for potato mileage, he lowered the landing gear and flaps, went back to get it. Fortunately, no damage was done and he can report finished with 116.88 miles.

Rotato has a new magnet, finishing the tour with 107.00 miles while Christmas Potato is only half a mile behind with 106.50 miles. Chilli Cheese Fries is also over the line at 106.20 miles so she can decorate her fridge as well.

There is a lot happening in the 105 mile range: Pacific Potato finished up first in this group with 105.74 miles but Cajun Gator Tater has him in his sights on his Zwift with 105.50 miles. Coming in just behind them and finishing all 11 Le Tour de Couch Potato events is Bubba Spud with 105.20 miles.

Rocky Potato has once again conquered the hills of Colorado with 104.27 miles and Kartoffel Kaiser wrapped up her tour today with 103.2 miles.

Sweet Kinder Spud and Hawaiian Potato were sprinting it out to the end with 102.40 miles and 102.26 miles respectively. Coming in right with them is Tater Mala with 102.2 miles.

Tuberski was out on a family ride for breakfast. They saw an alligator, baby turtles, dodged raindrops, stopped at a garage sale and finished with 102.1 miles for a magnet.

Golly D Tater and Pearl Yam finished in a dead heat with 101.90 miles each – new magnets for both. Helmer Spud is also over the century mark with 101.20 miles.

That’s a LOT of potatoes – congratulations to all of you.

Potato Happenings:

49 pedaling potatoes who aren’t yet over the finish line. You have one more day of pedaling…who will be a DUD SPUD and who will finish. If you have a potato friend who isn’t over the finish line, get out there with them and help them over the finish line.

Decapotato has been leading the pack throughout Le Tour and today topped the 1000 mile mark. Congrats to Decapotato – nicely done!

Fat Tire Tater made his way around West Virginia with his son for about 14 miles today…love it when families ride together!

50 Shades of Spud is over the finish line but still adding miles “because I can”. Also done and getting extra miles is Potato Chip Rock – he got lost today and discovered he was riding in Norway (I hope on a Peloton or similar).

Tater Mountain is “almost there” after a great morning ride through White Stone and Road Rash Tater had her longest ride yet (she better finish cuz we work together and I’d harass her until next year if she doesn’t). Swimming Spud – you’re in that category too.

Tom Tater is still at it and determined to finish. He definitely has the right idea, riding for doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches.

Waa Waa – 36 potatoes still on the couch…Really???

Administrivia:

PSA from fellow tater: Yogatato is a yoga instructor and after earning her second magnet she would like to offer any potato who finished LTdCP a free yoga class. She is in the Northern Neck, VA area so if you live in that area and are interested, please check out her website here: Insideout Yoga

Log your miles using the exact email you registered with or they won’t show up. Pedaling ends at midnight, July 18 and all miles need to be entered by midnight July 19.
